Crankshaft/Cam dot-to-dot?

Default Crankshaft/Cam dot-to-dot?

Hey all,

I'm in the middle of a cam install G5X1 and I have a question concerning TDC/#1 firing position. To start off, when I pulled out the cam sprocket and removed the old cam, I put the new one in and I noticed that the crank dot looked a little off center. So, with the chain off of the sprocket I turned the crank one complete turn to align the dot again or bring it to the center. However, upon thinking about what I had done, I believe that I need to turn the crank one more complete turn to return the #1 piston to TDC/firing position and then align them dot-to-dot, is this correct?

WHAT you are thinking does not matter , stop and think with chain install one turn 2 times to the other one time , after install before installing cover roll over by hand 2-3 times to be sure dots align and to be sure values do not hit piston

We just had a huge discussion on this board about this. #1 is not firing ATDC with DOT to DOT #6 is firing and #1 is on overlap. It confused me too. Do a search or if I can find it real quick I will post the link.

So, I don't need to turn the crank one more turn then to bring it back to where it was when I had first pulled the sprocket off? Just go dot-to-dot and that's it?

SS SLP2: I didn't have the chain connected to the cam when I turned the crank the 1 turn, so same question as above. : )

It don't matter dude,As long as its dot to dot the cam sensor will adjust even its 180 out which your thinking it is being you didn't turn it around another full turn.
