Corvette Performance - New to me 02 Z06

Sold my 2001 Firehawk and picked up this 2002 Z06 a couple weeks ago. It is all stock except for a K&N intake and filter, only 40,000 miles, and extremely clean. It is my first corvette, so I have been pretty excited. I was surprised at the smooth ride and agile handling, the power was expected. I contemplated a 2010 2SS, but went with the vette. The exhaust is very quiet compared to the GMMG that I had on the Firehawk. What would anyone recommend to obtain that throaty sound? Here are a couple pics. There will be more to come.

I personally have a B & B prt catback. It was on the car when I bought but I like it alot. Alot of it is going to come down to personal opion. Most exhaust companies have a sound clip section or go to some local shows and ask to hear some cars. The prt is one of the louder exhausts from what I am told.

I hate raspy or cackly exhaust notes. They sound like glasspacks or like mufflers that have holes in them. The closest to a "Flowmasters-on-a-5.0L-Mustang" hollow-sounding exhaust I have heard on a Vette is the Borla S-system, or "Stinger". I have the 2-tip version on my Z06. Make sure you purchase some type of X-pipe, too. It will eliminate 90% of exhaust drone.

Nice car! I have the Corsa Xtreme with X pipe on my 03 Z06 and it sounds awesome! Deff look into Corsa and as stated above get an X pipe too.

For the cost of a quality catback, you could add headers which will give you some increased sound (not as much as some catbacks) and more power. Are headers an option?
Congrats on the new ride. :)

I kept the stock Ti exhaust and went with ARH headers + x-pipe. It sounds good when you get on it but not too loud at idle.

I have stingers on my z06 with x pipe, catless and kooks long tubes. Its super deep at idle with the cam but seems to really scream at wot. I drove one with full exhaust and B$B bullets before i settled on the z and it was very nice as well. Cant go wrong with either though i think the bullets were deeper at wot.

Headers are definitely in my future, I will be going with kooks lt's. I might do the lt's first like you are saying. Would definitely yield more performance. Great suggestion. Thanks to everyone for the responses and compliments. If anyone else has something to say, please feel free to chime in.

awesome choice. my friend had a 98 trans am with pacesetter headers and a gmmg. Like you said it is very loud. to match him i put american racing headers, x pipe, and B&B bullets on my z06. The loudness is about the same but the z06 sounds much cleaner. Here is a sample of the vette.

I too just sold my fbody and picked up an 03z just last month. Owned my 97z since it was new. This z is amazing in stock form, i can't beleive the way it handles, it's insane. Got mine bone stock, 1 owner, 36k mi. I plan on doing the usual bolt ons, intake LTs and a no cat x pipe. I'd like to keep the stock ti's and do the bypass mod, I hear it sounds really good.
I got LG pro, X pipe w/ cats (no drone) and Borla stingers. Cammed as well and it sounds good but the corsa sounds hella better IMO. I love the stingers but mine came w/ them so switching out isn't an option. Congrats on the purchase! Fun cars for sure.

Depends on what sound you want.... you want more rumble, get a chambered muffler. If you want more raspy and treble, go with a straight though. I suggest Borla like everyone else. Quality parts, good sound, good performance gains... why not? The price lol. If you can afford it, go Borla!

I would do the headers and x pipe first, it may be all you need for the sound you're looking for. Bob

Bahhh...everyone goes Borla / B&B. Corsa's sound great but they're spendy. I've been through sets of Flowmasters, Borla XR-1 and now I'm rocking GHL Bullets. Let me tell you, hands down the best exhaust I've heard yet and absolutely ZERO drone. None, ever (and that's with catless long tubes). I had NASTY drone from the XR-1, so maybe the Stinger's are better. As you climb the revs, the sound just becomes more pronounced and exotic. It sounds loud, and well it is loud, but when you're in the car it's actually quite comfortable. I can hear the radio at low volume or carry out a convo without my ears bleeding (try that with B&Bs).
Fast forward to about a minute in to get a glimpse:

That's because Borla not only sounds great, it fits great, there's minimal drone (epecially compared to flowmaser), and there adjustable catback's are great if you want the ability to quiet the car down on command... on the other hand you can always get a raspy ass. free flowing exhaust and go with an e-cutout hah. That's what I plan on doing.

I hate raspy, fluttery, cackly exhausts like the GHL, Corsa, B&B, and others. They sound like a cheap muffler with holes drilled in them or something. I love a deep, hollow, rumbly exhaust. That is why I use Borlas. With longtubes and an X-pipe, there is no drone. Just a nice deep thumpity-thump of an exhaust note...

FYRARMS you must really hate SLP's loudmouth I muffler then hah. Loudmouth I + no cats + longtubes = terrible drone. Not horribly bad with stock manifolds and mid pipe though... but lets be honest, who keeps those lol.
