Hot cam in a ls3?
Hey guys, anyone run a hot cam in there ls3? I am on the fence with the ls9 cam or finding a used hot cam. The ls9 cam is making around 30hp at the wheels with a tune and the cam is only around 120$ but it has NO lope.. Hot cam lopes but will it make power in a ls3? Thanks

I think I changed my mind AGAIN ... Now I am looking at something else! Probly something in the 220-230 range .550-560 lift, its my DD right now and I just want a decent gain with some sound and not something hard on the valve train. I would rather have a nice torque curve with solid mid range then topend right now.

Talked to lunati... they said I could run there 55004 221/221 .558/.558 on my stock valve springs and drive pretty much like stock, he said it make great low end and mid rage with some sound. Anyone run this cam? He also said 55005.. 222/230 .534/.544 would be good also. Both cams are 114/110, I kinda like the higher lift on the first one, what you guys think?

Ok think I found one I like, heard it idle on you tube also. Lunati 222/228 .567/.567 113 sound good, pretty mild... this should definitly make more power then a hot cam! I would be pretty happy with 440 at the wheels, I think this would do it and still drive pretty nice.

Ls3 with hot cam
I have and LS3 in my 99 T/A and I am putting down wheel 450 with this cam stock intake full exhaust and lightly ported heads.Gm even sells a crate LS3 with a hot cam the makes 50 more hp than the stock ls3 crate engine.look it up under LS376.

I've had this cam and the grand am cup cam in a ls1. Loved them both. I made 389 with home ported heads with the hot cam and 450 with the grand am and LPE heads. Seriously thinking on putting one in my SS when the time comes. Just like GMPP

If your going to put in a cam you might as well install double springs and get a blower friendly cam. Jannetty Racing has a sweet 470 cam that will work with a blower if you decide to get one some day. He doesn't post the specs but plan on a least 470 rwhp

gm hot cam info
if you order an ls3 engine with hot cam installed it says plainly crate engine ls3 with hot cam advertised 480 horsepower and that with a tune real world dyno result it makes about 30 more horsepower and 17 ftbs of toruqe at the wheels of coarse a good tuner might fetch a little more out of it and yes it does have a rough idle and some lope worse when cold but when it warms up and under normal driving conditions cant tell its there the standard ls3 engine from the factory is 426 horse power and an really good tune that unlockls torque management adds 24 horsepower and the hot cam 30, so here is the crate ls3 hot cam engine 480 horsepower starts with 426 horses slide in hot cam 30 and comes with a hotter tune reduction in torqe management and wala 426+24tuned+30 installed hot cam =480 add good set of long tube headers1.7/8 inch good for 24 or full system all way back 30=510 so your looking at 510 maybe on a good day if you increase timing 2 degress 520

Lunati Voodoo 222/228... been in my goat since March of 2006.
Good mind range power and a nice lope sound, it got better once I put it with the SSW 1 3/4 headers and full dual exhaust...
Now I didn't port the manifold and it's a LS2 so there is some power to be made there, and its still on the stock clutch but 409/400 rwhp/tq for 8 years strait isn't so bad...
Now with the LS3's better manifold and larger runners in the heads (along with the increase in displacement). It would make for a mild DD cam...
But replace the springs... the stock springs are for a stock cam... a set of pac or comp .600" capable springs will keep you from having a failure in the cars future.
Lunati sells the Pac springs, so you can probably get a combo purchase from them...
Just food for thought.

I have to agree with bring the noise good ideal to replace valve springs with any cam even the ls3 hot cam and lunati makes some good springs and good cam packages as well good luck on you choice and installation of your cam

My GM performance LS3 495 horsepower crate engine running on E85 made 520 horsepower at the crankshaft and 495 foot pounds of torque running 26 degrees of timing 430 horsepower at the wheels at 6200rpm and 410 foot pounds of torque at 4800-5000rpm and pulls very well to 6600rpm redline with a fat flat torque curve from 3000-6200rpm

@495 is a fairly new member with all of three posts on the forum that probably wants to share information and results about his new GM Crate LS3 w/HotCam in this 5th Gen Camaro in a thread titled "Hot Cam in a LS3"
possibly-ordering-gm-performance-495-ls-engine shows his other two posts.
I'm happy 495 returned and shared his information and I'd think you would be too given how little traffic this site has in 2022 compare even just a few years ago.
