Default Trex

Ok guys my previous winter mod thread included a tsp 233/239 cam. Well I rode in and drove my buddys 99 ta which has full bolts ons 4.10's and a trex. I understand its not the best under the curve type cam. But I just really like the nature of the cam a small amount of surging down low not to bad and it just feels very violent. I think it gives the car a lot of character. for me its a blast to deal with donkey D*ick cams its fun! it wont be a dd but in nice weather i will drive it ALOT. Speed inc will be tuning it. thoughts? insight? got my flame suite on lol. Anyone else drive a big cam on the street?

Just make sure your gearing / stall is within reason, a good set of springs set correctly and proper tuning. IF Speed Inc. is involved like you say, follow their advice when it comes to the supporting mods since you have not listed the specs here.

I have a trex in my C5 and hate it, but thats because I don't have a low gear in the car. If I had 4:30's the car would be brutal but the fact is, this is my cruise in car and I never take it to the track and hate it on the street. Sounds like you know it makes all its power up top and **** down low, which sucks for street driving. Just know what you are getting into, if you aren't drag racing it might be worth looking at different cams IMO. Don't get me wrong my car sounds f'n great! But for what I do with the car it will eventually see a different cam. Not trying to change your mind just honest feedback.

If you are looking for sound or a "violent" cam, you can always get a cam spec'd that sounds like a trex without all the hassles of a trex or other big cams.

Get an eps cam you dont need a trex, dont just go for sound alone.

I drive a cam with similar specs to the Trex and I love it, yeah the midrange isn't there like it would be from a 224r or smaller cam but the top end is insane. The 233/239 is a great cam as well though and has a good balance between a midrange and top end cam. In the end it all comes down to what you want because regardless the same modifications will need to be done to your heads regardless of the cam you select unless it's like an LS6 or GM hotcam LOL.

get your rocker arms rebuilt and make sure your valve train geometry is correct.look at a EPS cam, they make great power with a little less duration.

its not just about sound to me. I just really like the aggressive character of a t rex car on the street.

I dd my car and would not want a bigger cam! I only have the stock 3.42's so that might have something to do with it! This cam pulls all the way to my 6.8k rev limiter easily.

i dd my 99ss all summer with a ms4, i will say you can get a big cam sound out of a smaller profile, imo that is what i would do if i were in your shoes, honest big cams are not a budget way of going fast. it takes alot to make them run how they should. big cams are not fun to deal with , never ,ever buy a cam for how cool it sounds, like i said you can get that on a smaller profile and have a better car in the long run.

^^this

ask me how much i take my car to 6k+ ive got all the supporting mods you could dream of except tires, all i really need to pass 99% of people is 4500rpm and i still get poor gas mileage. but hey it sounds wicked with the cutout open. morel of the story cars that are symetrical and well balanced win races.

Drove mine to work today. It is 66 degrees outside with a sunny blue sky. If it was raining it would still be home. Not quiet as big as the Trex. But shes fun to drive around town and still runs in the 11s at the track.

I'll be surprised if you think the sound that comes from that combo is anywhere near pleasant. It will be loud though, if that's the kind of thing you are going for.

FWIW, if you ditched the loud mouth for, well...almost anything else...you would probably be fine.
