Default Any "better" year 5.3's for FI?

Just wondering if there are any advantages to using a certain year 5.3 for FI. Does it matter at all i.e. better heads/rods/pistons over a different year? Or are they pretty much all the same?

TIA

The 04+ ones are probably better due to the rods. I'm not exactly sure when they changed them but I think late 04. I'm using a gen3 block with the gen 4(floating pin) rods and pistons. Mines a 4.8 though.

another thing to add would be that the 07+ 5.3s come with 799/243 heads and that would make them a bettter engine. The fastest stock shortblock car has an aluminum 5.3(l33)with 799/243 heads and has run 8.65@167iirc.

I dont think you will have a problem with any 5.3 you decide to go with. As long as you get a healthy engine and have a spot on tune it should do fine.

Im building a stock shortblock 4.8 setup and plan on making 650whp on pump gas and 750ish on race gas. Unless i decide to go with e85 then probably closer to the 750 all the time.

I was wondering about this as well, as I'm in the market for a 5.3L junkyard engine to be turbo'd.

Just bought an 05' L33 alum block 5.3 with 799 heads for $550 complete with 137k miles. Plan on inspecting it, cam change, and head studs and 750rw on E85 with a PT7675. Id go 05 and newer.

cant go wrong with the 2005 l33 motor, flat top pistons, 10.1 compression, ls6 heads....ls2 timing chain, has the bosses for the timing damper also, and has a special cam..

At 10:1 compression will you have to swap to a larger combustion chamber head to lower the compression before going turbo? I thought the iron 5.3L had 9.5:1 or 9:1 compression ratios.

I agree on the newer L33 with the god rods, or any 05' newer with the good rods.

Nope not the one in Cambridge, I have a friend who works at a yard down here so I was able to go in and pull the valve covers and take a look at it first.

Picked up the complete L33, set of coils, two truck harnesses, starter, and a pcm for a great price.

Yes, hoping to drop 150lbs and pick up 100rwhp. It ran 10.45 with the 6.0 setup that was under turbo'd. This should get me in the 9's with a very budget friendly combo. The Nova is my advertising so thats the reasoning for the budget setup this time, lots of guys looking to do similiar builds but cant spend $4000 on a shortblock.
