Default What The Hell!

Is it me, or is it hard to find tires these days? I drove to 40 different tire shops to try and find a nice decent used set of 245/50/16s and no one had em. Nothing but 205/55/16. Is the market still there??? I guess its a sign to upgrade to a bigger and wider wheels.

Not from my experience. I found 275/40 and 285/40 17s for my old wheels and had no problems finding 285/35/18s for my spyders

the tire guy at la mirada swap meet had a set of four daytona zr 245/50s. He wanted 100 for the set, when I pulled out the cash he started acting stupid. Had to open his hand, place the money in there, and roll the tires to the car. I also found a pair of kumho ecstas here in santana for 70 practically new. Theyre out there, not very common though. Just keep looking and watch out for retreads!

Family sells tires. Cheaper for us to buy 20" truck tires than to buy 16" car tires. Price actually increases for us as the size goes down. We have great difficulty finding tires for F-bodies....have for a couple of years now.

quit being cheap, and buy NEW.

I have learned that, for being the one single thing that actually comes into contact with the road, you should never go cheap on.

Buy used, your asking for trouble, and then your looking for a "decent" tire used? come on now

Lol exactly. Gotta use basic math and reasoning. Lets say your broke today and can only afford x amount for tires, well 4 sets of used tires in a year is gonna cost more time, money, headache, and danger than just getting a nice new set. Just keep stacking your pennies. Do it once and do it right.

I didn't have a problem finding the 245's for 16's when I needed some for roller wheels. But 275/40/17 is pretty uncommon to find used, and when you do find them, they're typically different brands and not in a condition worth buying.

Not always, my Michelin Pilot Sports had 7/32s of tread left on them when I got them for 80 bucks as a dealer take off, verified no leaks or bubbles.

Your statement is not entirely true, the reason the 20" tires are less expensive is that they are mostly "R", or "H" rated tires. Concerning the size the person is looking for, he is pricing a "Z" rated tire, which is an entirely different ball game.
