Default Project 2012 x275

I figured I should post this build thread here in the boost section as well. Figured I'd share my winter adventures. Nothing major, just a new turbo locations and moving to air to water instead of the air to air. Thinking about putting a real mini-tub in it and pulling the tires in 3/4" a side. Moving along pretty well, I'm ~5 days into the project. What I wouldn't give for an engine sponsor to send me a REAL ls motor, lol. ERL, LME, VA Speed, Kurt, etc.. anyone?? Its Christmas time!!! Ok, ok.. back to reality now. Going to still be rocking my ETP ls7 headed 6.0 iron motor with an 85mm(hopefully), if not, 88mm. I'd rather the 85 for the weight break but they are not easy to come by without dropping massive coin for one of the new billet units.

2011 setup

The start to 2012 "Mock up stage"

Making weld on bungs and "tabs" for IC mounting

Time to cut!!!!! Just rough cut for now, I'll be cleaning it all up down the road.

Fabbing up the new front structure.

Working on turbo mounting

IC is mounted. I will be re-making the upper tire bar. Don't like how its not centered and at a goofy angle.

Starting in on the cold side

Interior cold side. I almost made it all without having to use any silicon couplers. Ended up having to use one in the pipe that goes from the IC to the TB. It would not come out of the car in one piece... I tried. Angry.

Down pipe fab

Don't mind the body line, fender is fully bolted on.

Thanks guys! Even with the 4 bolt motor it should do pretty decent. Had a substandard piston in it last year and broke one each time I went over 20psi. Going with something custom for next year. Went 170.xx on 19.7psi.

Looks great I love the fact that it really doesnt have the best of the best. Gives me a lil hope, reminds me of my junk. Still getting it done for sure, big props. I always thought this car had a big money engine in it. Btw what pistons are you talking about cause ive been having the same type of issue it seems.

Nothing ever "fits" lol. Going to slightly modify the driver header. Plus access from the bottom is AMAZING. We had great luck with their headers on our turbo BBC so I figured I'd give them a try with this build.

Honestly, everything but the motor has great stuff. For an Iron block, its got good stuff, I'm just not sure how much power it will make before it starts to move the heads around. As for the piston question, I wanted to see how much power could be made on out of the box Mahle pistons. Turns out its ~1050-1100rwhp. Going with a custom CP or Diamond this time.

Looks great! How are you going to make weight though? I thought there were limits to how much balast you could add?

Quite easily. 3150/3250 doesn't require much ballast, lol. You are correct though, there are limits to what amount of ballast you can run. However, I've never seen a tech guy weigh the ballast as I know a few cars that run WAY over the legal limit of ballast to make some of the STUPID(3500lbs) weights.

Nice 275 car, i'm building one for one class under the x275, we call it Real Street 275. Turbo/A2W minimums are freakin 3400 lbs. Hoping to get in the 5.3's with a tiny 76mm

would you able to take a pic of the drivers side header to see how much clearance you have againts the tower?
