Wow, just wow. I'm getting a little teary eyed and sentimental right now because my very first car was a (used) 1974 Plymouth Valiant Brougham (nearly identical to the Dodge Dart of the same era) with a 318 two barrel V8. :D

BOOO!!!! Sham on Dodge for ruining yet another great name that has a great history. Before anyone says anything, yes, I know that the Dart was an economy car. That economy car still came in rwd and a V8 option. They could have kept the rwd on the new one. This car should have been called the Neon... not the Dart.
P.S. It seems like as of lately, no one is allowed to have their own opinion. So, if your sole intent is to bash me for my opinion, go ahead. :jest:

The "Neon" name just has too much negative energy surrounding it. Kinda like "Cavalier."

True. I think a lot of these "throwback" cars should have just gotten new names in the first place.

I agree with previous statements: OEMs try too hard to bring back old names. Even worse when they bring over cars from other markets they rename them for the NA Market even if the car already had an english name. FAILLLLLL

Everybody just forgets that the Malibu was a cheap rental car in its day as well. It could be optioned to be really cool.
Also, we as a group, are a small percentage of the car buying public. Everything being V8 and RWD is dead. Two doors are dead except on a small segment of cars.
Just sitting around my office I know what about 25 of my coworkers drive every day. 3 are rwd. 1 BMW 3-series, 1 05+ V6 Mustang (mid 20's female), and I have an 02 Expedition (can be 4wd).

The new Malibu looks sick. The new Dodge Dart not so much......

From the teaser shots... it certainly looks better than the Caliber it's replacing, and a helluva lot nicer than the current Avenger. Looks like it's sticking with the lines of the current Charger... more crested, and shark-like.
I'll hold on judgement until it's revealed.

I am somewhat shocked they're calling it Dart, which is basically Chrysler's Pinto and still the butt of jokes on Car Talk.
Going with Hornet or even Neon would have been much, much better.
The car itself is an Alfa Romeo Giulietta that's been stretched, widened and given Dodge styling inside and out. The details over at allpar.com sound somewhat promising.

Or Nova on a Toyota Corrolla or LeMans on a Daewoo....

I'd rather it be called Giulietta. That sounds like a fun and interesting car. Dart sounds awful.

On the one had it is simply a cheap/budget/entry level economy car and on the other hand it just might be THE ABSOLUTE QUICKEST PRODUCTION CAR (barely production of course) EVER MADE (aka: the Hemi Dart) LOL. :D ;)

This car will likely target cheap new car buyers, many of which have never heard of the original dodge dart.
That could be a good thing though.

LOL. :D

Back in '77 I briefly owned a '69 Dart 340 4 speed. The thing I remember most about that car was that it had a huge trunk. Bob

I had a 1970 340 Dart Swinger, fun car, was quick for what it had but was by far no real muscle car:jest: But since it was the 90's and most people my age (20's)had no idea what it was back in the day it was cool as hell. Had a bumble bee stripe and those two (fake) factory hood scoopes, I miss that car

So i like it when compared to the cars its going against i think its a great looking little car that will get 40 mpg and have a turbo option.Take away the fact that were all butt hurt over the name and its better then a jap car imo.

They've had the Chevy Lumina SS overseas for years. We just now get a rebranded Malibu rental car thats outdated before it even hits the streets...Some how still an improvement over the past buckets.
Most carbuyers probably dont even know/remember what an old Dart looks like.

As long as it does not have the 41TE transmission (or any trans based off of the 41TE), the Dart should be ok. If it does have a trans based off the 41TE, get read for trans failures left and right.

boy I bet they couldn't get away with a Dart "Swinger" in these politcally correct over-reactive society we live in now.
