Default Help with VE tuning....log and tune inside

Trying to dial the ve on my sts ls1. Am i heading in the correct direction? This is my 1st time tuning period. Do i multiply the negative #'s on my afr % error histo the same as i would if they were positive? i am smoothing by hand with the 3d graph as well. Thanks!

Brandon

What injectors do you have?

Your engine temp. and the outside air temp. (IAT) are too high!

The knock in your scanner log @ 800rpm-1,200rpm is unacceptable.

Changes:

VCM Scanner > Histogram Display > Histogram Configuration > Cell Hits Required > Histogram 7 (VE-AFR error) > 5-20 as you want ONLY good data NOT random data that updated 1 time.

VCM Editor > Engine > Torque Management > General > Traction Control System TCS Method > Retard vs. RPM > Put back in stock values.

VCM Editor > Engine > Torque Management > General > Spark Retard > vs. Torque Reduction > 0 out all.

VCM Editor > Engine > Torque Management > General > Torque Loss % > vs. Spark Retard > 0 out all.

VCM Editor > Engine > Torque Management > General > Maximum Torque Max Torque > 640 ft.lb

VCM Editor > Engine > Spark > Advance > Main Spark Advance > Low Octane > Copy to High Octane once done tuning, then copy High Octane x 80% (.80) so you have low octane safety timing net.

VCM Editor > Engine > Fuel > Power Enrich > Power Enrichment > EQ Ratio vs. RPM > start with all 1.16 (AFR 12.5'ish) , NOT 1.00!

VCM Editor > Engine > Fuel > Open & Closed Loop > Open Loop > EQ ratio > match it to your Power Enrichment table while tuning, hit a single target (i.e. 1.16:AFR 12.5'ish).

VCM Editor > Engine > Fuel > Cutoff, DFCO > RPM Limits > P/N Cutoff > 6,500rpm and P/N Resume 6,400rpm.

VCM Editor > Engine > Fuel > Cutoff, DFCO > Cutoff RPM vs. Gear > Normal > Cutoff 6,500rpm and Resume 6,400rpm.

P.S. Answer yes. Your hand smoothing looks good. Keep up the good work!

Im runnin 48lb trick flow injectors at about 75psi with a stealth in tank pump. The knock didnt pick up until l put it in 6th gear at a low speed to try and populate some more histogram on the afr err %. Also i was following a guide I found to tune which is why the eq vs rpm is set at 1... to disable p/e. i will attach the file ive been trying to tune by. I will take your advice and try this as my learning curve is pretty steep. Thanks for the input!

IF fueling is wrong you are starting blind.

Search on www.HpTuners.com/Forum : HPT_Injector_Calc.xls (Injector Spreedsheet)

Open it...

I entered

4B= 43.5
5B= 58
6B= 48

Line 26C-26S = I was given the following to enter in order in table Flow Rate vs KPA:

55.4266032953 55.7720386999 56.1153477101 56.4565691175 56.7957405481 57.1328985112 57.4680784452 57.8013147607 58.1326408823 58.4620892874 58.7896915431 59.1154783421 59.439479536 59.7617241668 60.0822404982 60.4010560435 60.7181975939

Where did you get 75psi? Is that your fuel rail pressure? Notice I used stock 58psi. in the above.

You have to measure rail pressure and use that in the spreadsheet.

Let me know if the values I provided you work out. Remember in the beginning when you load them you're ENTIRE existing tune will be off. Go tune VE/MAF. Report back...

So are you running an aftermarket regulator? ... i still don't understand the 75 lbs fuel pressure. Stock is 58 psig ... are you overwhelming the stock regulator and seeing 75 psig when you measure it? Are you measuring at the rail? Fuel pumps don't flow as much at higher pressures ... aeromotive's graph shows the 340 flowing only ~235 lph at 75 psig.

Actually...i broke the stock hanger when putting on the stealth pump so i was running unregulated. (long story). I now understand that the screwy pressures i was seeing (depending on load) was probably preventing me from dialing in ve's...especially at wot and idle. Havent messed with the car in months. Sad.

ps....measured at the rail with pod mounted gauge and sender
