Default oil pressure low PLEASE help

a friend of mine is looking at a 2000 trans am but is afraid of the oil pressure being low. The owner is telling him it needs and opsu but would that read low or not at all? dont want my buddy to be taken advantage of so any help is appreciated.

Sometimes they just read low rather than failing completely. So yes, that is possibile.

Yup-only thing you can do is have the oil pressure verified. If it's just the sending unit I don't see why the original owner can't swap it out-that's kinda weird. I mean, if I were selling a car I wouldn't want any hints of trouble that might scare away a buyer. I'd tell your friend to be careful...

thats what I was thinking. I would have fixed it too. Something seems kinda shady about it not tomention its a 2000 TA A4 with 120k for only 3000$ seems a little cheap to me.

Would a jumpy needle being symptomatic of a dying sending unit be a correct assumption?

And how do you change the unit anyway? I think I was told long ago that's is way behind the intake manifold. If so, that would discourage anyone who's not tech-savvy.
