Default Need advise before storing my short block.

I have a 5.3 Iron block and was wondering if anyone out there has experience with some of the cleaning product and rust inhibitors on the market. The block has some rust in the coolant ports and I don't want it to get worst while it sits for about a month or two.

When i last "stored" an engine i sprayed it liberally with wd-40 and wrapped the block in a big trash bag. I even checked it to make sure that rust wasn't forming throughout winter! I sold the block later to a racer who recently blew up his engine..

There is a rust inhibitor called SP-400. Comes in a spray can, and leaves an almost waxy coating on everything. It lasts a long time too, and cleans up relatively easily with carb/brake cleaner.

Thanks guys I've heard of using WD40 before. Don't really want to end up blowing the motor, but i doubt it had anything to do with that. As far as using the carb/brake cleaning wouldn't that stuff dry the internal parts out? Or no?

I thought you meant it was just the block. I would just dry out the coolant passages, and use engine oil on everything you dont want to rust, then bag it to keep the dust out.. It will be fine.

This engine was assembled YEARS ago, and just had engine oil, and in a bag.
