Default Anyone have or know of a cam that won't make your clothes smell?

I love the power my car puts down, but I hate arriving places smelling like un-burnt hydro-carbons.
What characteristics of a cam cause this? Is there any way to reduce it? Does anyone have a cam that doesn't cause your clothes / hair to smell?
Is there something a tuner can do to reduce or eliminate this?

It's call catalytic converters...look into them.

Oh and while you're at it, look into a new tuner. If the tuner does not know how to tame a cam and is relying on you asking us for answers to that then you have no business going to this guy.

I haven't run it by my tuner... I will once I know more about what causes this.
And I did a search here and it seems in the searches a lot of people have this issue both with or without cats.
Anyone know what actually causes the smell? From what I've read on here it seems to stink both when rich and when lean ( as leaning it out at idle was my first thought ).

Google "how does a catalytic converter work"

As stated, installing cats is the only way to eliminate the exhaust smell. Also excessive idle spark timing will increase the exhaust stink.

I have a G5X3 114 cam in my TSP 418 stroker with high flow cats, and there is no exhaust smell. Years ago I tried to tune around having no cats, several head aches later, high flow cats were installed.

I actually had the smell with my cam both with and without cats.. different smells.. but they both "sunk into" my clothes after a few hours of cruising.

Then either you had too much idle spark timing, or had fake cats (obx resonators)

I know the cats weren't fake so I'm guessing my tuner sucks.
Which I've been thinking for a while now but didn't want to mention it without first figuring things out.

Would race gas help kill the smell? Not that I'd drive around with race gas, that's more a curiosity thing.
I'll just take it back to get tuned again... and ask them to specifically fix the timing at idle so I dont smell like ashes.

I would guess it's caused by a performance cam's excessive overlap compared to a stock cam - more overlap means that the intake and exhaust valves are both open longer, so there is a longer period of time where unburnt fuel is being pulled straight through the intake right into the exhaust. It's really the nature of the beast - just another one of the compromises you have to make for performance.

Again, the answer is cats. Get a good set of cats (not the crap from ebay) and you're going to eliminate 95% of the smell.
