Default Biggest bore/stroke for stock ls1 aluminum block

Hey everyone! I was wondering what would be the max bore/ stroke on a stock alum ls1 block with MID sleeves. I would plan to add a turbo as well and want to be safe. Wht will the bock hold hp wise? Thanks for all your input

Why do some people stay away from the longer stroke?

Higher piston speeds, more clearance issues. Anything over 4 inch stroke and ls engines have a tendency to burn oil because the piston comes down so far in the bore, It rocks side to side and loses seal on the rings.

No real need to max the inches as a cheap Borg Warner S480 could easily
make 900 to 1000 ponies on a 346 inch engine and do this reliably if the tune
is right since only 7000 rpms are needed.

That's why you get longer sleeves, so that doesn't happen. On the stock sleeves yes anything over 4 is going to burn oil, but he specifically said he's getting different sleeves so depending how long those are he should be find with a >4 stroke.

So will a stock aluminum ls1 hold 800 hp? Reliably? Or would I have to add things like billet main caps?

Address the rod bolts first.

I read out of my book 450rwh is the farthest you wanna take your rod bolts. But the crank on the other hand...says it can do 800rwh. Idk about the aluminum block.

As for the bore on a stock aluminum LS1 block, the stock bore is 3.898 inches. I have always been told not to bore them too much over due to the thin cylinder liners. I have heard the 98's are also slightly thinner than 99+. For the 98's they recommend 3.903 inch pistons at the max. The biggest piston diameter I have seen for an LS1 is 3.905 inches, which is only .007" over stock. Those would be fine in the 99+ blocks. Im thinking anything more than that would be playing with fire. As for the stroke, The stock stroke is 3.622 inches. The longest stroke I have seen available is 4.125 inches, when combined with the slightly oversized pistons gives you a displacement of 395 cubic inches. These seem to be the threshold for sizes in an LS1 Block. If you step up to LS2 or the cast iron LQ blocks then obviously you have more room to play.

I would go with an Ironblock.

That and keep the bore larger than the stroke.

If you want cubes that large get a used ls2 block and have it dry sleeved, still ends up cheaper than doing wet sleeves in the Ls1, or just buy a built iron motor for cheap and sell your Ls1 to recoup some money.

For a boosted motor you want to stay away from long *** strokes as you will want a thicker piston on a FI motor.
