Default 317 Heads Milled with Cam??

Ok, so I recently blew my head gasket on my 2001 WS6. I planned on buying a set of 243/799 heads to throw on while I had the engine apart and install a cam. The cam I chose is a TSP 233/239 cam on 112lsa. I came across a set of 317 heads at work that I got for next to nothing.

I know plenty about the heads and know they are virtually the same as the 243 heads but with a 72cc chamber as opposed to the 64cc 243 heads. I realize I would lose a little power over the 243 due to the compression loss, but would it still be a good improvement over the 241 heads? I planned on getting the 317s milled to make up for some compression loss and get some port work as well as a valve job, but how far can I go without having ptv issues with the mentioned cam. I dont need to have the 64cc chambers, but I would at least like to be at 66cc to maintain the stock original compression or maybe a touch over..

So with some decent port-work and getting the 317s to stock compression how much of a performance advantage will i have over 241s.

Sorry if the post is a little excessive but thank you in advance for any and all help and thank you for taking the time to read what I have going on..

I had a set of 317's milled .040 which would be a 64cc chamber. Cam i ran was a 230/238 .600/.604 112+2 spun it 6800 om several occasions never had a problem.

Sounds perfect to me. Your cam is a little bigger then the one im looking at so Im sure Ill be fine. Did you have any issues with the intake lining up after milling that much off? Also, does milling that much off the head take away from any performance.

Well all this sounds promising. And I haven't checked out the EPS cams yet. Is any performance lost from milling the heads that much?

No thread Jack but. I have an LQ9 and a tsp tsunami cam. I had my 317's milled .15. Will I run into ptv issues and what is the maximum I could mill with ptv issues. Cam is 235/240 648/609 on a 111.

I meant what is the maximum I could mill and not have to worry about ptv clearance?

well i milled mine .040 and had a guy on here spec my cam 230/238 and this is what i found after running the car for a year with these heads. if i had to do it over again i wouldnt go over a 226 on the intake to be safe on the setup I had.. without flycutting. i just took the heads off saturday and found what is seen in the pic. no harm done to anything thankfully.

Hmm. Makes me wonder how far I should go. I'm not going to be doing 2.08 valves. 2.02 at the most. Your cam is about the same size as what I'm going to use. Maybe a little larger on the lift. I think milling the heads .030 might be max for what I'm doing.

If I'm taking .030 off these heads and they are 72cc chambers that would put me at about stock compression?

I was wondering could I do .30 since my cam is a tad larger. 235/240. I might just stay at .15.

What would compression be with .030 milled off?

well if .006 = 1 cc then .030 would bring the 72cc head down to 67cc which is what a 241(ls1) head is stock..

shave the 317's .040, use a stock head gasket, buy a ls6 coolant crossover and get a 226/234 eps cam and make some powa.
