Default Doing heads and cam on 100k+ motor?

Heads and cam are in my thoughts for the car. Motor has 105k. Whats your thoughts on doing heads and cam on a higher mileage motor?

It will be fine as long as you upgrade the hole valvetrain: pushrods, valvesprings, lifters, timing chain etc.

105k no problem. I have done it before with no issues. need some new things though as stated in the post above. I would say if you are really paranoid about it you could run a leak down and compression test just to be sure you don' have any blown rings and such...

Thanks guys. Is 450+rwh through a stalled auto out of the question?

I did my H&C at around 107k, ended up needing to rebuild the trans and getting a new rear within a couple months (blew both)...just something to think about in addition to the supporting mods already mentioned.

+1

Also grab a ported/high volume oil pump and some new lifters imo.

Should be very possible, but keep in mind that even though your engine will make that kind of power, your tranny and rear end ( which have a lot of miles on them ) are likely going to wear out and go a lot faster then if the car was stock.
Also, I noticed that with my build, ( I have about 97000 miles ) my car made about ten less hp then I expected... might be due to the mileage.

How much HP are you making if you don't mind me asking? I want to do H/C with my 99 as well.

Thanks for the help guys. Iv been looking at options and looks like the 243s are a good option. Im also interested in having a set CNC'd by Advanced Induction. Says on their website "Typical gains are 40-50rwhp over the as cast 243, with most LS1 & LS2's producing 450-500rwhp SAE with daily drivable cams". Sounds great to me.

I noticed 243s are very common in the for sale section. Would you guys recommend buying them used? And if so, seeing how its recommended I upgrade the whole valvetrain I should buy them totally bare if possible?

Just buy used heads and have new valvesprings installed.
