Default LM7 (5.3L): Can it be bored to 5.5L?

Title basically states it even if it is an unusual request.

But, I suppose I better elaborate. I know that the 5.3L can be bored to 5.7L... ie from 96mm bore to 99mm bore.

In order to get a 5.5L, my initial estimate is I need to bore to 97.5mm but a quick search doesn't show a piston of this range.

So, is it possible? Does anyone have a part number?

I'm looking at an odd project and 5.5L is the magic number

you can bore out to 5.5 but like you already found out is that finding the correct size pistons sitting on the shelf is unlikely. you would have to contact the company that makes the pistons to have some made. my question is why not just go 5.7 and get some nice ls1 or ls6 pistons that are every where. and why 5.5. just asking not putting you down or anything

The "custom" pistons is a bit of what I'm afraid of.

The reason for the 5.5L is to go into an FJ55 model Land Cruiser Yeah, I know.. oddball I'm just looking into a future swap for it and gathering "opportunity" parts

JE Pistons or Ross will make a custom set for you to any dimension you want. Probably looking at $800-up for an odd bore

Does it have to be done with the bore? If not you would save some money in the end going with shelf pistons you can find and having the crank offset ground.

Definitely doesn't have to be done at the bore. It did cross my mind about the offset grind on the crank. I just wasn't sure if it was cheaper to go that route or with pistons.

Of slight concern is the intention to "squeeze" 550hp out of it At 550hp, I'm not sure if forged pistons are required at that point.

550hp where? At the crank or wheels?

Crank is doable with a great set of heads and matching cam. At the wheels forget it without some sort of forced induction. If staying N/A and shooting for 550 crank hp then it's not required to get forged pistons...but I would do it anyway since you're doing all this work of putting together a bottom end.

If you already had the bottom end all buttoned up then I would say it's not worth to take it all apart just for some forged pistons (which are not required for that hp).
