Anything to look for? The top end was just rebuilt, LS2 timing chain, new springs and rocker arms etc. Paying 16,200 out the door. 107K miles. Fair? Trading my suburban in on it so I will be financing around 10K. Im excited, best thing that has come from my divorce.

There are a million things to look for. Check the corvette sticky FAQ above. I got a 99 about a year ago and it has a leak which is common on hardtops. 2001 was a long time ago but as long as you think the engine is running strong you can't go too wrong.

Nice find. You could've got a little better on the price IMO but maybe not by much. I picked mine up 3 mos ago and love it. Nice find! EBCM is the one thing to look out for and the column lock. See if they've been done. Aside from that, enjoy the hell out of it!

The top end was rebuilt 5K miles ago(I was showed receipts for it), also the ABS sensor thing; New clutch too. So it will last me a while, I think I did decent on the price because even with over 100K most Z's around my area go for 18-19K.

Sucks u still did not have the G8 GT i would have worked a Deal w/ u and My Vette !!

I would have loved to have done that, but she took it and traded it as soon as she got home, then bitched at me for getting a vette... Because I had negative equity in the G8, and I owned the Suburban outright so now she is saying I owe her $$$... its a fuckin nightmare. Im just glad she got rid of it. She ended up getting 20K for it, and a fair price on her car thanks to me telling her to walk out on the deal and they would call her... The whole situation was just bad, and I am getting endless amounts of shit for buying a Corvette but like I told her verbatim, "You cant tell me what to do anymore." end of story. I wanted to keep the G8 but she was deadset on trading it in... oh well. Im just ready for the paperwork to be over with.

Yep, she said the Vette was a bad decision even though it's less payment than the Suburban and less insurance. Women's logic= failure. Plus, she got a brand new fucking car, so I dont see what she is mad about. Probably the fact I am going to pick up tons of ass in the Z. At least it's when I'm young, I just turned 30 so I still have time to have fun.

Yeah, I have always had girls running around, figured I'd try the marriage thing once though. At least there's no kids involved, and I get to keep the house out of it.

I just bought some Borla Stingers for the VEtte, headers coming when I get my Christmas bonus. Then I'm leaving it alone till I can find a cheap beater. Probably gonna buy an older Crown Vic or Grand Prix or something

I do plan on it, maybe on down the road when I get a beater. Just looked at a 1994 Roadmaster with an LT1 but damn that thing was really beat up. Im going to probably go with a GTP or regal GS if I cant find a 94-96 Fleetwood or roadmaster in good shape. Im sure someone's grandma has a nice one, also thinking maybe 1996-98 Mustang GT, or maybe even a 3.8 Fbody. We shall see what I find.

You got the house and the Z FTW! That's what's up. I got mine w/ 8K worth of work on it, new clutch, pp, flywheel, new classic CCW's w/ tires, new rotors, pads, all new redline fluids, new wp, new harmonic balancer, new coils, plugs, wires, c6z shocks, endlink bushings, c6z sway bars, new rebuilt diff w/ c6z internals, new LED tails, new ACR HID lights, new LED interior lights, new borla stinger, new carbon fiber CAI and a new deck that ran 500 bucks alone w/ ipod and all that other crap along w/ polk audio speakers. I paid around the same as you that's why I said you possibly could've got it lower. Mine had 116K when bought. Only thing that was bad was a broken valve guide only discovered it when doing a valve spring swap. Got lucky as I had to drive it 5hrs back home but it's good to go now.

Still though, nice find and enjoy it!

JohnnyT13
01-18-2012, 09:54 PM
I think it really depends on your roads and your comfort level. I'm about an inch and a half lower if not more and I don't have any trouble. I've had low cars before so you just get used to the angles, avoiding potholes and what not. I love the stance now; stock height was way too high for me, and the wheel gap was brutal. Different strokes for different folks, but there's plenty of protection for the underside if you need to ease your mind to justify lowering it.

Yeah, I think I am going to leave it for now, although yours looks great. I love the wheels too. I'm getting it dyno tuned friday hopefully; after that I am not going to mess with it too much till I get a daily driver. How stout are the rear ends in these things?

JohnnyT13
01-18-2012, 10:14 PM
Thank you, sir. As for the rear ends, well they're stronger than the '05 coupes as our input shafts are upgrades for them. It really depends on how far you're going with the car and how you're going to be driving it. Seems like most procharged vettes are doing fine on stock diff and they can hit 600+ whp. They're not tracking the car every weekend but if you're going to do basic mods I wouldn't be concerned.

Yeah, no noise whatsoever coming from it. The car literally looks and drives like a 30K mile car. I just had all the fluids changed, the only thing I really need to do is front rotors and it should last to 200K no problem. Where can I get some cheap? GM parts direct?

Yeah if you want to stick with stock go with that or parts taxi ( http://partstaxi.com/ ), chances are the price will be very simiar.

Wheels are CCW SP500s. Not cheap, but still the best thing I've done to the car (besides the cam). Here's the bigger pic:

If you look on Corvette forums there are several break deals going on all the time. Look in the c5 parts for sale section. I got 4 rotors and brake pads for $180. They are cross drilled, slotted and zinc coated. I am sure its not the best brakes out there but they are as good as the factory stuff that I had and eventually I want big brakes. Check it out it really is a pretty good deal.

Cool, will do. My rotors are shot, so that will be the next thing I do. I spent my christmas bonus on the headers, X pipe and DR's, but I will start looking on there.

Yeah it's my first Vette. I have DR's, Headers/Xpipe (Putting the headers on tomorrow) Vararam, Borla Exhaust and a ported TB. Getting a dyno tune tomorrow too. I've been learning to drive it; taking it out on the backroads and getting a feel for the car. It's different from an Fbody for sure, but I can handle it; Ive had quite a few fast cars over the years.

Nice! thats about exactly what I have done to mine! Lol. That's not the problem, these things gets sideways real easy. Just be careful is All I say. Wrapping the car around a tree or pole is the last thing you want to do in a vette never the less a fiberglass car. It's your car, not mine. Lol. Shit, drive it off a cliff if you Want to, vin diesel did it. Lmao.

HAHAHA Yeah, I left the traction control on the first time I drove it until I got a feel for where and when it spins; with the street tires on there it gets sideways in 2nd gear @ WOT... the DR's helped a LOT. It truly is the closest thing to a racecar I've ever driven, my last car was a 10 second Fbody and didnt compare to the Z06. I've been respecting it, last thing I wanna do is crash it because I have been wanting one for so long.

I let my Younger brother drive mine, he's 26 and has a pretty fast Vert TA. He was absolutely terrified of it and immediately told me to drive. It's tough to control for sure. I love it though! One of the girls I'm seeing wants to drive it.... Yeah NO.

It's a Z06 for 16,5. 16, 5 can have you riding in style and at the same time all over the damn road! My z06 has 120kand me and the previous owner raced the hell out of it until 100k

I really don't think I did too bad honestly, I got the car for 15,400 the rest of the $ was tax tag and title. Plus the top end of the motor was just rebuilt with better valve springs/pushrods and the rocker arm trunion upgrade (I saw the receipt and the mileage was on the receipt.) Also, you can tell the car was not abused, the front clip is not scraped at all underneath (Common problem) and the paint looks just about new. I bought it to drive, not to put it in a garage that's why I didnt care about the mileage. I have seen ones with 70-90K for 20 grand, so I am not complaining.
