i have a 2000 stepside gmc sierra 1500 86k mi, right now i am all stock except for exhaust, soon to get the basics long tube headers, intake, gears (4 11), what i really want is to install a cam so for that reason wuld i need heads? ive heard alot about the ls6 stage 2 heads but thats a little to much for my budget

look at some stage 1 ls6 heads or some 5.3 heads from TSP,you can't use too big of valves with a stock 5.3 bore.or get some stock 243/799 heads and get them milled to get the compression where you need it .consider a comp cam,54-455-11.check out comp cam cam quest to get a ruff ideal of what each different cam power and curve look like.or look at thunder racing tr224 or a TSP 224r cam pkg.just some ideals to get you started with.
