help guys... thinking about buying a GT
so i have a family now (wife, twin boys) and my zo6 aint cutting it anymore. im considering getting a G8 GT. would like to get a GXP but a little pricey and people have told me just to get the GT instead.
so are you guys happy with them? how does the GXP perform vs the GT? what should i look for? are certain years better than others? do the GT's come in manual? thanks!

I love my G8 GT and I'm guessing the GXP doesn't get the ga milage the gt does! Mine gets 27 on the highway an about 21-22 in town! Put headers and tune it and outrun GXP probably. My mods are in my sig, it pleases me with what little I have done to it. Good luck!

I cannot give a lot of info because I just bought mine about two months ago. I went from a 06 GP GXP (incredible vehicle) to a 08 G8 GT (great vehicle). Will be taking my first road trip with it this weekend so I will chime in with my review.

I think once you get a G8, you'll fall in love with it.
I had a 05' GTO and when we had our baby girl, we needed a back seat w/room for a carseat.. POOF.. the G8 came to the rescue and I love it!
Go get a G8 GT or GXP and slap some mods on, its like a 4-door Vette... :-)
Can only get a manual on the GXP, GT's are 6spd Autos 6L80E Trans with the manumatic "+" & "-" gear selector...so its quasi stick, but not really.

Just me but, I think those are backwards. Yes I miss my 08 GP GXP, exp the HUD and NAV but my 09 G8 is so much better. We don't have to worry about tranny issues in these cars like the GP's, greater aftermarket, and just better looking IMHO
And to the OP's ? no the GT's are all auto's only.

Bang for the buck, the GT is probably a better buy. That said, if you can afford the extra $$ get a GXP, you won't be disappointed. Sure, you can easily mod a GT to beat a GXP, but a GXP is a GXP. The LS3 platform is the way to go.
I'm not bashing the GT...it's an awesome car, but the GXP is more awesomer!
I'm a little bias, I'm a GXP owner.
Seriously though, ask around, GXP owners will tell you the same thing. There are plenty of guys who went from GT to GXP and swear by it.
There isn't too much info here on tech about the G8. Find the G8 sites and there is a wealth of knowledge. There is a GRRRR8 site that has GRRRR8 info...check it out.

Our GXP is a M6 model and has gotten 22-24 mpg highway depending on speed, terrain, and traffic. It regularly gets 18-19 mpg mixed driving around town. I don't drive with a light foot either.
We drove both the GT and GXP when we were looking. I prefer the GXP for better handling, better gear ratio, better brakes, a stronger engine, and the styling differences makes for a better looking car IMO. I'm also not a fan of DOD. Just another thing to go wrong IMO, but I'm also older and remember GM's attempts at this technology when I was younger. I'd test drive both if you can and see which you prefer. Nothing wrong with either. One just comes with more.
Some general notes. The G8 rear seat area is more spacious with more leg and foot room than my V. It is very comfortable to travel in and daily drive. Some of the feature controls are in odd locations, but you get used to it. The thing I dislike about the G8 are the seat ajustment *****. If they weren't going to offer the seats in full power, why they couldn't use levers like a 4th gen f-body to tilt the back of the front seats instead of having to twist a hard to reach **** is beyond me. I also think the GXP should have been powered by the LSA instead of the LS3.
