Default average cost on building motor?

I leave janaury for bootcamp and ait for the army. I plan on saving up for a few months after ait so I can build my motor. The car will be took to a shop to have all work done I will have a 404 rotating assembly a large cam and worked heads. A new clutch put in and some bmr stuff for traction and a tune. What will I expect to spend? More then 6k? Should I have my 241 heads worked or what would be a good 500hp+ set of heads? I have more questions on this but well start off with this. Thanks . Eric

I am assuming you are going with an iron 6.0 block? costs will vary by shop, Most shops assembly charges are less than the actual machining, that can get very costly. I have heard of shops charging 250-500 for assembly, but if your block needs work, it will add up quickly.
If you have all the parts to build the short block, You should be no where near 6k for the building of the engine. You wont hit 500 with stock heads, even though displacement is up, If they are stock heads they wont feed the engine. You want to go with a Head/cam combo for your engine, that way it all works together. When you get the engine built,, also plan on another 4-500 for the dyno tune.

Are you talking cubic inches or ?? Never heard of a 404.
Flat top pistons, CNC'd heads and a 226+ duration cam will put you in the 500's with a 6.0 and still have great street performance.
