Default Is a little smoke normal from oil filler neck?

I have a 02 z28. When I check my oil after turning off the car at normal operating temperatures (180-185) there's little smoke coming out of the dip stick hole and when I take off the oil cap, there's also a little bit of smoke. The oil cap has some oil gunk build up as well. Is this normal?

Yes, most vehicles I have seen all do it, even brand new ones.

Thats good to hear. I'm just afraid my rings are done. Is there another way to test other than a leak down test?

Yeah, its normal. If im not mistaken, its not actually smoke, but oil mist.

You can also do a compression test which will help give you an idea if there is a problem.

Shouldn't all the mist or smoke escape through the PCV valve?

^^ LOL

Once you turn off the car, there is no vacuum to pull the mist in to the pcv system.

Lol I guess I don't have to worry for now

Oh, I also hear a hissing when driving..
Might be off topic but When I'm at a stop light, my car has a little intermittent shake and a roooooom rooooom noise.

I use to be worried about that when i first got my car. But its remained constant and I assume its just how the ls1s feel. when I'm in neutral my car will feel like its vibrating consistently for a half second with about 1 to 2 seconds between the "vibrating" feeling. i think this is what you are talking about but if thats not what your trying to describe then hopefully someone can help you out.

It pretty much is what you've described.

Common traits of hi mile aluminum block ls1s. I've seen motors built by shops that the oil fill neck looks like a lil train smoke stack
The truck iron blocks do not have that issue. My 330k mile dd 4.8 does not smoke or any of the above issues.
I think it's just the aluminum blocks that do this.

I guess my rings are at least still okay. I revved the motor with the cap off and felt for air pushing out or puffs of smokes. I had none, so that relieves me a little.
