Do I need a smog check when buying a car from out of state?
Hey fellas, does anyone know if I need to have a car smog if I buy it out of state? And if I do, do I need to keep getting it smogged every other year? It would be a 2009 car.
Also, anyone know if I were to put down a different purchase price amount on the title if my bank would find out? Does the DMV send the title that I submit/fill out directly to my bank?

does your state have smog regulations and in mn if its 8 years and new they go buy the bluebook and not selling price. and after the 8 years it goes by sell price. my understanding is that they want to know how much you paid so they can tax you on that and no there wont send it to your bank

You will need smog before you can register under California. You will need smog every 2 years to renew registration in California. You can keep the registration from out of state but if a cop notice your car being in CA for a long time, they can ticket you to have car registered here in CA if you're a CA resident.
You can lower the price amount on the pink-slip as long as the seller "agrees" and pretend thats the actual amount was the lower amount you put down.

Of course you can. Chances are cops won't really care. However, if your car is sooooo obvious that it doesn't pass smog, for instance, smell like **** or loud as f, chances are you will get pulled over and they MIGHT figure it out. My pointer to you is: Do not let the cop poke holes in your story. They can ticket you easily if they want to if they can prove you've been driving the out of state car in Cali as a Cali resident. Also, no smog needed in vehicle pre 1975.
