Stock Sounding 380rwhp? $2.5k what mods?
I bought an 02 z28 m6 not so long ago and I want to start modding but I don't want too much attention from local law enforcement. I have 2-2.5k to spend and I want my car to sound stock and retain stockish MPG. Oh and to pass CA smog lol. I currently only have a lid. I guess anywhere from 350rwhp-380rwhp would make me happy. Am I asking for too much?

It may be possible to hit 380 with the stock heads but some ported 5.3 or ls6 heads would definetly help since you will need to run a smaller, more stealthy cam. Adding in the heads with all supporting mods will be pushing it depending if you do the work yourself or not.

A set of LS6 heads and cam should get you to around that power level. Otherwise I would have Patrick G spec you a custom cam and go with a set of headers with catted Y-pipe and keep the stock catback.

If you're really serious about passing smog then you'll need to keep your stock heads and have them fully ported/and milled for more compression. Port the Factory TB, and stick with the Factory exhaust manifolds, FM merger on the Y-pipe, and replace the factory muffler with a Magnaflow #12267, or a Dynomax #17227 (2.5" outlets) or # 17536(3" outlets). For your cam a CheaTR v.3, 219/230 .607/.604 117 LSA, or a similiar custom grid, and a set of PAC 1518 valve springs.
FYI, you can still fail smog on the visual even if you use a different GM head casting, or maybe buy som used AFR heads which have are CARB approved. Skip the headers since they also have to have a CARB #, and the can only be shorty headers.

Can't run long tubes and be California legal. It is tough trying to make power within their guidelines. I am porting stock heads with an eps cam and hoping I can tracks down an ls6 egr manifold. Stock exhaust manifolds into California legal magnaflow direct fit cats y and cat back. Hopefully it will be around 380-400

I saw a thread around here with someone modifying a LS6 manifold to make it accept the egr tube. It looked easy and cheap to do.
