On the fence procharger or turbo
I know theres a thread about guys going from a blower to turbo, but I only seen 1 or two guys do the switch most where Na to turbo or something else.
My dalima is that I have two pro charger sitting in my shop, the f1 that was on my old engine and a f1r that I was looking to put on the new engine,
they are sitting there payed for just waiting to make some series power, I hurt the last engine by pushing the crank forward in the block hurting some internals, I don't think the blower had much to do with the damage but I know all the stress on the snout of the crank cant help any matters, so Im kicking the idea around about a front mount turbo on my goat.
The turbo will have to support a least 1200fwhp to equal the f1r blower power potential, But I do not want the thing to take 600ft to come in full boost, so is it do able or should I just stick with the blower set up???????
My new engine specs are...
365 ls2, lunati pro series crank, k1 rods, je 9:1 pistons, comp 239 251 623 623 114+4 and looking at the 230 mongoose heads.
The car will have a 4l80 in it soon but the home built 65 was holding up great on the 22psi it was seeing before.
My car is 99.9% street car no cage no nothing. the car just rolled over 10400 miles on it, so I really don't want to cut on the car a Lil maybe but I'm no going to hack it up.
So is my goals realistic or should I stay with the blowers, if you say go turbo tell me what brand/size and if are using what you are recommending
thanks for the inputs in advanced

turbo can easily do what you want. A precision 7675 billet compressor. rated at 1200 horsepower. i have this turbo on a .81 a/r and a 5.3 liter. boost comes on very fast.. 3200 rpm i have 10 psi and if i wanted i could get it even lower. just havnt tried.
the F1 is paid for and proven so if i were you id probably just use it.

Im a very big procharger fan
yes the f1 will be forsale no matter what. if I stay blower the new f1r will be on the engine
its a straight f1
not the d or a just straight f1 rated at 1050fwhp, it made 22psi of boost on the last build on a 6rib no track times turned up

I'd use that F-1R that you have. Bob

If money is no object go turbo and recoop some of your cost by selling the F1, however its hard to justify the extra cost and 180 for what could be similar results in the end. I personally would like to see the procharger being used but I might be a little bias. Good luck with your decision..

I have always liked the procharger, I have had my f1 since 05 through three builds, the 4.3 s10, 454ss and now the goat, I have a couple buddys that are big import guys that were trying to stick this turbo deal in my head.
A new thread of some of the pics of the new blower and engine mods to come.
I plan on sticking with the belt version for my power goals
thanks for the input guys

Im a procharger guy myself but I see it This way, if you have a few extra thousand bucks laying around, that if you spend it you won't care then say screw and try the turbo route. IMO you have the F1 and it's paid for! That's pretty much a no brainer. That said if it was the other way around And you had a paid for turbo kit I'd say stick with the turbo.

I have some money to throw around but not just to see if **** will work,
I dont have any intention to take a IRS record but looking to get a 4000lbs car down in to the low 9s. and be able to drive it there and get kicked off the trtack to drive it back home

F1R and put a gear drive on that bitch! Honestly I'd love to do a gear driven F1R combo and a glide in my current car. From what I've read and heard from the blower guy's the boost never changes on the transbrake at the rpm you are launching at so the short times will be way more consistent and for you it will mean you have the power it will take to get that GTO out the hole.
Now if you did decide to go turbo I'd go with a BW S482. It's a billet 82mm compressor wheel and can be had in T4 exhaust flange with a 87mm or 92mm turbine and various AR's or a T6 exhaust flange and a 96mm turbine and a 1.32 AR.

would love a gear drive set up, but not near enough room in my car to put one in, I will have to stay with a belt side slinger version, it will be coged so no worrys about slip, the only thing I dont like is the extra 3inchs hanging off the front of the crank snout.
thats alot of pressure on that front main bearing.
the new block is pretty much done with 1/2 studs all the way around and a girdle for the mains. I hope the aluminum block half filled is up for the stress im going to put it through
