Default Went from m6 to a4

i have a 2001 ws6 and i am doing a trans swap, got everything but the computer.. now im wondering will my m6 computer work? i was told that all the tuner has to do is swap to auto in the tuning? is this true? also if i get a different computer where can i find one and is there a way to have my vin flashed into the computer just in case i bring the car to a state that requires emissions? i know that a 98 computer is different than a 2001 is a 99 the same as mine? any help would greatly be appreciated!

You will have to get an auto computer or have your computer flashed with an autos car calubration. As far as i know HP Tuners cant do it, or at least it couldnt when i did my swap. I had to swap the computers out of the donor car to get the auto to shift. I believe the all the computers are able to operate both the auto or M6 versions of our cars they just have to be flashed to unlock the parameters.

Should my tuner have the perameters? The car is gonna have to get tuned regardless...

If your tuner has the abillity to unlock the A4 parameters in the computer you'll be fine. We tried to put an A4 tune in a M6 computer with HP Tuners and it did not work. U have to get the computer re-flashed with an auto shift program not just the auto tune form HP tuners.

You can just do a trans segment swap inthe tune or flash an auto file in. I use efi live and tunercats and never had any problems.

Your tuner will know what to do. You have to either flash it with a A4 tune or get a A4 PCM.

Call your tuner and ask him what he needs to do it or how he will do it.

The a4 and m6 computers are identical, with Identical part numbers. It is just the Flash on the inside of the computer that is different. A tuner can change it. In efilive you would just do a full flash with the m6 file and you are ready for tweaking.

I had no problems tuning my car with HPTuners when I did the A4-M6 swap. I did it and it was my first time using HPTuners period.

Not to actually drive the car, but to correct the speedo, reverse lockout, skip-shift, etc. Yes, it can be driven normally, but there are still PCM issues with the swap. It threw tons of codes too with the A4 removed.
