I have umi road race umi k-member and solid aluminum umi motor mounts. Is it possible to drop the pan enough to change the oil pan gasket or will I have to unbolt the mounts? It seems like there may be enough clearance but I never did it so can't tell.

The gasket is riveted to the pan. The pan must come completely off.

well in that case my question changes to does the umi k-member allow for the pan to be completely removed.

Hey spy. I've been lurking on this one. Truth is, we've never attempted what you are asking. Our engine is usually fully assembled in our test car. We've checked for pan clearance on mock ups but never unbolted while k was still in the car. Was hoping others could chime in.

I seriously doubt you could remove it without at least dropping the k member a few inches.

You can't remove the oil pan without dropping the k-member...I tried.

My solution, since I did not want to unbolt the k-member was to cut the oil pan gasket in half and install it with some red RTV around the cuts.

You don't have to realign the car when you drop the k member. I've had mine off a half dozen times are more. Just don't disturb the LCAs and you're good.

I have an LT1 and a UMI kmember. I dropped the oil pan by unbolting the motor mounts and lifting the motor with a cherry picker just enough to clear the oil pan and the kmember. I can also change the oilpan gasket without dropping the oil pan entirely, and without lifting the motor. Hope this help.

While i am sure you are correct, i am an alignment tech, EVERYTHING NEEDS AN ALIGNMENT lol. No matter how perfect it is i'll still swear its pulling to the left, i have been conditioned to do so.

I personally can't because I have a FAST102 intake, there is less than a 1/4" between the top of the intake and the cowl.

Take the few extra min and remove it. Shouldn't be too bad to do. Or go thru dropping the K mem.

I like how I changed my oil pan gasket...didn't have to remove anything and I have no leaks afterwards.

another option would be the remove the trans and you can get the pan out the back.
thats not a big deal to do for me, and you might have something you need to fix with the trans out too. new clutch, convertor? rod bolts, oil pan baffle?

^^^^ that's what I did, while the UMI kmember did add ALOT of room to work on the oil pan will hit the Trans. Once the Trans is removed then the pan slides right out. Good luck OP keep us posted.

I found a hairline crack in my oil pan that was seeping after my motor was first started With a tubular k member, we lifted the front end and loosened every k member bolt one by one to the point where a few threads were still in there. We tried removing the oil pan, but it wasn't enough. We had to loosen the motor mounts and lift the motor up.

That takes a few extra minutes, but removing/reinstalling motor mount bolts took less time than taking the intake off in my case...
