Default 4l60e in gbody cutlass

Hey guys I am starting a build pretty soon on my 86 cutlass supreme. I am collecting parts for it and hope to get the ball rolling in the next 3 months or so ( after tax return). I have serching a lot of helpful threads and got a lot of ideas and great info. I just have a couple question to clear that I can't seem to find.

My most important question is about a 4l60e. I bought a nice 5.3 out of a 2002 suburban. I have a chance to buy two local 4l60e. One from a 2006 silverado he said its 2wd, and one from a 2002 camero ss. Both for 400-450 price range. My question is what 4l60e can be used for my engine and requires less mods. I would like the one from the camero but he don't return my calls now. Will the 06 work fine? And what mods need to be done to put it in my gbody?

Can I bolt it in and just shortan my driveshaft and hook it up to my current shifter? To work with the cable driven speedo. What must I do. Change the tailshaft or use this item.
http://www.atrol.com/cablex.htm.
Can someone elaborate a little more for me on the transmission, I seem to be running in circles about this.

One more question guys what pcm. Can i use? the 5.3 came with harness and all exept the pcm. I plan on keeping it all stock if I can and not buy more due to budget and upgrade as time goes by.( thank you guys)

I bought a High performance rebuilt 4l60E from a 98+ plus truck with a 2wd tailshaft from a Camaro I may be wrong but i thought the 06 trans is actually a 4L65E trans which is somewhat stronger then the 4L60E....if it was coupled to a 6.0 motor. So if the trans was attached to 5.3 it may be a 4L60E. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong

Your cable driven speedometer won't connect to a 4L60E. They are set up for a VSS instead of a cable connection. As far as your shifter, I don't know what you have now, so I can't answer that question.

You have to use either an electronic cable driver that mounts near tailshaft or have your speedo converted to electronic. Use the later truck trans, slightly stronger. The outsides of trans are the same. Use truck PCM from a truck that has the same TB, i.e. if your engine has drive by wire then get a DBW PCM, if your engine has cable TB get a PCM from cable op truck. Either will work but if you are DBW you MUST get the TAC module and pedal with the PCM preferably from the same vehicle. I modified an 03 suburban pedal for my Gbody

My 05 4L60 has the goodies already in it.. 5 pinion planet, servo, etc. My trans guy added some HD bushings, welded the sun shell, replaced some seals w/ upgraded pieces. The trans is out of a H2 Hummer, so it had to be converted to 2wd.

The H2 had a 4l65e with an lq4 in it. That's why it had 5 pinion planetaries in it. If it's an 06 5.3 truck it most likely has only a 4l60e.

So the 06 should be fine. Ive read on a thread here I want normally a 98+ transmission. Now sence I am trying to do a very tight budge(as much as it will allow me), till I'm down with school and can put more money in. What would be a better choice to make it work with my cable driven speedo as stated above or convert to a electronic speedo?

Do the 2wd and 4wd 4l60e look a lot different? If someone can post a pic,(no bid deal though I can easily serch for pics when I'm out of school. Just thought I ask if anyone has a pic handy of the difference.)

Go with the truck trans. The prndl switch is mounted on the trans so you can use your stock shifter.

I was hoping to use this kit, anybody using it? looks like it would work with both the VSS and speedo.

Actually that does look fairly decent. If I knew of that when I did mine I would of considered it vs the dakota cluster

Thank you guys i think i got a good idea of what needs to be done for the transmission. So I'm going to look for a 98+ 4l60e from a truck. Would I be able to use a car pcm with the truck harness?

Okay you guys so I'm going to take a trip this weekend, I found the guy on Craigslist he's about 2 hours away from me. He says its from a 06 silverado 90k on it. He told me its a 2wd tranny. So any advice for me on what to look out for to try and see if its true? How can i tell if its a 2wd for sure? Any advice I'm not familiar with the 4l60e at all so I don't want to get taken advantage of. So I'm asking anyone willing to give me some advice. Thank you

Here is some pics he sent me

That's what my 4l60E looks like. The tailshaft housing looks like to be 2wd. Though from what i've tried on decoding the tag i still haven't been able to find a exact answer. Is there a way to figure out exactly what trans we have from the sticker?? Mine came without any sensors or switches etc etc...

So no one knows the answer or can help me out? I've done hours of serching and from the tag I'd 7cld its saying its an 07 2wd 4l60e. Guy says it came out of a 06 silverado? I've seen memeber here post a 4l60e for sale stating its a 2007 but tag I'd stated 08 when I looked it up so I'm confused. I wouldent want to buy it from a guy who lies about what it comes out of so im trying to make sure.

In the event you went carb'd, which controller would be better suited for the 4L60E?

oh okay, because in the forums and the reserch i read i see that people say you want a 98-06 4l60e, so when the tag came up as 07 i was wondering if they changed any or anything was different. so that 4l60e shouldent be a problem with my 02 5.3?

Another reason why i was concered was because the seller stated it was out of an 2006 silverado, so i seen it came up as an 07 4l60e so that concernd me as to if he lieing about that and what else can be untrue, or if he dosent know about the transmission or the condition of it. cause its a seller on craigslist so that kind of threw a red flag in my mind.
