so my car went down 2 weeks ago after just shutting down while driving i'm still trying to figure it out I've replaced O2 sensors, plugs, wires, tps and a new fuel pump and still not quite running right. I was wondering if anyone around oklahoma city might be kind enough to let me borrow their MAF to see if maybe thats the problem so i can stop throwing parts at it.

if you think it may be a MAF just unplug it.. see if it runs better or not..

i bet the crank or cam sensor is your issue and i don't think there is a way to check that on a scan tool. a friend of mine had the same problem with his gmc van. it would randomly shut down and restart a day or two later. turned out to be a crank sensor.

Pull the "eng sen" fuse from under the hood. What exactly is the car doing? Just died while driving? Will it start?

ya it died while I was driving. it starts, initially i had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running and it idled like it had cam. I ran a scanner and it said o2 sensors so I replaced them and it still barely idled so I replaced plugs and wires, and my TPS it starts and idles by itself now but it still sounds like its missing.

My Z-71 did the same shit, it was a clogged up cat. Pull the sensors out before the cats or if you have headers disconnect them from exhaust and see if it runs better

Pull your valve covers and check to make sure you didnt lose a rocker arm and the rest of the valve train is ok... Had that happen and my scanner said almost the same thing.. Changed out the Intake air sensor, TPS, and it seemed to help, but still was Effed up. Ended up being the number 8 intake valve roller rocker. Pulled the pedestal right off the head. Car sounded like it had a dead miss under load, and died out fairly quick unless you rested your foot on the gas. Also you can check to see if you are pulling excessive vacuum thru your dipstick tube.

but it could be a number of things. I dont see a clogged cat just shutting your car down.... but there is a first time for everything I suppose.

Please list all your modifications.
My car had close to same problem. Turned out that number 4 intake rocker arm came off. Now, the car has all new sensors

Do you still have catalytic converters? Have you retrieved any codes?

ya I still have cats and I'm pretty sure they r clogged. all the codes I had cleared after I replaced my o2 sensors plugs wires tps and MAF

When my cats failed on my z71 is was throwing a p0300 code which is random misfire. Like I said pull the sensors before the cats and that will allow it to breath enough to where it should straighten up enough to run. I wouldn't have believed it was cats either until a mechanic buddy showed me

I had a similar issue this last year. While driving the car would randomly die, or lose all engine load for a brief moment before returning to life (at speed – scary as hell). Initially it happened in my neighborhood, and died 3 times in ˝ mile. I had planned on installing a Racetronics fuel pump/regulator that weekend anyway with my nitrous kit, so I figured I could rule out a fuel issue at the same time. My gauge showed adequate/constant psi, so I didn’t expect this to be a cure.

Replaced the pump, car worked ok…for 10 miles. Got it back home without issue, scanned MAP, MAF, cam/crank sensors for accurate values/resistance, loose ground connections, check engine codes, yet nothing abnormal found. Over the next few days the problem would arise at complete random (Cold/warm motor, varying engine load, constant fuel pressure, etc). Only apparent sign was a strong odor of fuel after the motor died. Troubleshooting was getting old at this point.

The next day I happened to notice the ECT value on my Aeroforce Interceptor gauge just as the motor died, and it showed 65000 (literally). Only when the car died did the coolant temp value go haywire. Replaced the ECT sensor, seemed to fix the issue...for about 2 miles.

Checked the PCM harness connection/plug for the ECT, and low and behold, the plug’s female terminals that secured connection to the ECT sensor pins were pretty deformed, and ultimately unable to secure a tight connection under any stress/vibration. Even wiggling the plug at idle would flood/kill the motor. Maybe I bumped it one too many times when checking cyl 1 spark plug.

I found a 6” replacement pigtail from a local salvage yard for $4 (dealership wanted $40), and after soldering it in place the issue was alleviated.

For reference, my terminals looked like the pic in post 15 here:

i think your problem is having a LS....you should do a LT swap and get rid of all your problems.

you're in Oklahoma, cut the cats off and go. Hows your fuel system. a fuel pump could be causing it to die.
