ok i am looking to replace my fuel filter and fuel check valve and first just need to know where they are both located on a 98 camaro ls1 and what is the best replacement filters to get and where to get them also along with the check valve, thanks

Fuel Filter is under the car in front of the rear wheel on the driver side. Any auto parts store will have them.

is there any real recommendation when it comes to fuel filter my car is dynoed around 430rwhp, just cam and minor stuff no turbo or anything or would just a regular one from autozone just be fine.

I personally run the AC Delco fuel filter. No problems with it, ever.

The check valve is in the fuel pump asm.

Correct. OP- your fuel pump is inside of your gas tank if you were not already aware.

lol kinda knew that part but thanks just wasnt sure if the check valve was under the car or inside with everything else i might have to replace.

Fuel filters are all pretty much the same. There's also a lot of re-boxed filters out there, you never know who really made it. It's not like oil filters which can vary in grade, quality and build greatly.

I always suggest a fuel filter change every spring time/once a year.

Of course, if you use cheep no-name gas you might want to change the filter more often.

ok thanks well i went to advance auto today and got an acdelco fuel filter and seems fine, just my car still dosent like to start right sometimes, lol but that's all in another thread.

i guess for my last question would i need to get a whole entire kit to do this job or just the pump its self for replacing my fuel pump?

I use the Racetronix in my 2000 WS6 and it has never let me down. Just bought the fuel pump and modded factory sending unit bucket to install myself.

I did the trap door mod instead of dropping the tank so access to FP is quick and EZ in the future.

Also a good idea to go with the FP Upgraded Wiring Harness that pulls power directly off the battery terminal on back of alternator, and at least an Upgraded Body Ground Kit (heavier gauge body ground wire to replace the weak factory ground wire) - if not an entire Big3 upgrade...

The upgraded FP wiring harness also has a pigtail to install a Boost a Pump if ever needed in the future to get xtra fuel needed for an added 100-150hp

Racetronix has the upgraded ground kit, Innovative Wiring makes a good Big3 wiring upgrade which would upgrade ALL your main power/ground wires.


And the modding/spending of cash never ends...

Your best choice would be to buy the same stuff from Lonnie's Performance (he's a Racetronix distributor). His customer service is worth every penny if something goes wrong (and I've had personal experience with that one).

Yes, it is definitely more $$ initially than a Delco filter, but I like the sturdy aluminum construction, the fact that it offers higher flow than stock filter, and double the filtration. After initial investment, cost to replace with fresh element is $25...
