Automotive News, Media & Press - Thoughts on Code 130r? (possible new Camaro?)

Don't know a whole lot about it, just that its RWD, based on the Alpha platform, same wheelbase as the ATS, and its Chevy's attempt at trying to woo a younger crowd (17-early 20 year old i'm assuming.)
They mentioned it having a turbo'd ecotec so the thought of it being a Camaro went out the window. Still interesting.

Maybe but it needs a different design
Something more aggressive

This is if it actually is going to be the new Camaro, which i agree a few more sharper lines in the front with those headlights.
On second thoughts maybe this will be something like a Sky/Solstice, where it looks nice but isn't going to be a power house?
They also showed the Tru 140S, its a FWD application which looks like it might be trying to compete against the Scion crowd.

I think it looks like shit. I would love to see something that resembles the split camaro.

looks like GM's answer to the bmw 1 series to me.
whatever that thing is.. it's ugly. Wouldn't ride in that.

The body is a no-winner but I like the size. They could probably have a 1-series fighter with a turbo I4 or turbo V6 (1 series M). And with the bigger engines a Camaro. Just do not share the body or interior. Maybe the chassis backbone can be shared, but everything else needs to be different. And I mean more different than say the 4th Gen F-bodies, and the Grand Prix/Impala, etc.

they call this a chevelle and i'm disowning them.
that is not AT ALL a chevelle.
that's a generic boring chevy front end, with a generic high ceiling cabin and a useless trunk with wheels under it.
they already ruined the malibu. How many of those do you see in junkyards?

Some aggressive front end tweaks and it wouldn't be a bad looking car. I wouldn't own it but it looks unique enough I'm sure younger people would be interested, especially with a turbo ecotec.
People bought the Neon because it was turbo...and it was beyond ugly
from the side it sort of resembles an RX-8

I think some styling cues are very nice, but the end product is meh...
Although I'd love to see more rwd Chevys, so better in this form than nothing, I guess.

They mentioned it having a turbo'd ecotec so the thought of it being a Camaro went out the window.
What makes you say that? It is not as if the base engine has never been a 4 cylinder in a Camaro before. Given the higher output of these turbo fours it is a distinct possibility, perhaps moving into highly likely territory. Would there be a market for a low $20k, turbo 4 (270-300hp), 3400 lb, mid 30's mpg, rwd, 6 speed coupe?

Love this car and hope they get it right if they do make it. If the car weighs no more than 3000lbs and has around 300hp, it will be a performance gem! I love how this car looks too, I've noticed GM guys having the harshest words and the other camps saying they like it.... go figure...
Also, I created a Facebook Group asking GM to build this car. Join up if you want this car to come to reality. I just want them to get the powertrain/setup right for the performance model (SS). I also think they should give it the Nova nameplate.
Please Build the Chevy Code 130R:

Don't see this happening at all given the weight of the ATS

It looks like 3 different cars, and I cant pick out which 3 different cars to compare it to...nothing matches on it IMO. :jest:

it has 109 inch wheelbase and will be a 2+2 seating, aren't miatas 2 seaters?

The ATS weighs around 3400lbs... its a 4dr and has luxury items stuffed in it... I could see the 130R being around 3100lbs easy... still better than a 1series, as long as the HP is around 300

I like both. It's about time they think outside the box.
I don't like it as a 'new Camaro' :nono: but for a compact performance sport coupe it could work.
The white car has a bit of a 3rd gen+ 'Mitsubishi Eclipse look' to it and could possibly sell well if priced (and powered) right.

130R is one of the most hideous things I've seen in a long time. The front is an abomination, the taillights ruin the rear, though the shape of the back half looks decent from the side because it resembles the 1 series BMW. DO NOT BUILD!
On the other hand, that Tru 140S is sexy as hell though, I'd rock one for a daily for sure.

they took a bmw 1 series, rearended a traverse and taped them together with a cabin off a modified HHR.

The Tru 140s lines remind me of the eclipse. I think it has potential with the youth market.
The Code 130r on the other hand looks like a camaro raped a phone booth and this little bastard came screaming out. I don't like it.

Also FWIW the 4th gen height is 51.2 inches, Code 130R is 54.7

130R looks so weirdly shaped, I don't even know what to make out of it. The 140R on the other hand does look pretty sick though I have to say.

the 130R could be more something aimed at the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ twins. they'd be about the same size, the only real difference would be the weight.

01-12-2012, 07:16 AM
^^My thoughts exactly, I think those two cars alone are hideous but many will disagree. This car at least looks better than those two twins do, and given what GM has done with the ATS and pig of a Camaro, I have no doubts they could make a very competitive car.

that looks like GM saw a bMW M1 and said yea lets go with that look and add a little retarded camaro genes to it!

Agreed. I think if it was a two-seater it wouldn't be so ugly, but that roof line looks horrible as it is.

I agree, but I think it could be saved with a little work to the back of the cabin.. The front is passable, although a little soft.
