I'm looking to wax and polish my black cts-v by hand, and am looking for the best off the shelf polisher and wax...a few months ago, when i had my 3.6 cts, i used the clay bar, and the 3 step kit from mothers, which took me 9 hours and wasnt that good. Left alot of residue in between the moldings which was really hard to come off, if i could even reach to get at it. I been noticing that there is some products specifically made for black cars, like the turtle wax black, or meguiars just introduced the stuff...

There's alot of good detailers on here that will chime in with some good info....I've used a ton of stuff and as far as off the shelf wax, I've had good luck with Meg's NXT 2.0 paste or liquid. I won't stain trim and comes off very easy. If it comes off difficult, you've used too much product. I actually just bought a can of paste today at lunch at Advance Auto Parts. They're replacing it with something else and it was on clearance....$4.95. They only had one can.

Anything will if you use too much product. I try to be careful, then the rest gets taken off with a microfiber and a soft bristle toothbrush.

I tried turtle wax black and it was hard to remove. Been using mothers as of late and it aint bad. I also use an elec toothbrush to clean the cracks.

ive used megs nxt 2.0 with great results, but then i tried megs ultimate paste wax and i havent looked back. id say its the best wax i have ever used, over the shelf. it comes off soo easily and looks great.

any wax is gonna build up in crevices if you use too much and will be tough to come off if too much is applied.

I think I will try the following for my Black V:

-wash w/ megiars car wash
-clean surface with meguiars ultimate compound
-Polish surface with meguiars ultimate polish
-wax using meguiars NXT 2.0 paste wax

I will be doing this by hand due to the fact that I never have worked with a power tool when detailing a car. Should I look into some power tools for the job? I really dont want to burn the paint and i heard can be easily burnt. I also really dont know what type of pads to use. Anyone can gimme some recommendations, maybe it will change my mind and I will go for it

Turtle wax Color Magic worked nice on my old black Mercury Marauder.. loved that car. It came with a "chip stick" that was black for filling in small scratches and chips, you would wax over it and honestly didn't work great, but the wax did a good job. It also works well on tinted lights to keep them dark.

I'll use Megs Gold Class on mine but, mine is white and haven't tried it on a black car other than my white one and a red one.

Most detailers dont use over the counter stuff, or at least me. But I have heard good things about the Black box from meguiars ( I think thats what its called) What holds you from buying online? Best for black out there is THIS

As far as a machine, go get a PC (Porter Cable Orbital) and a set of pads. It's by far the best money I've ever spent, I detail on the weekends and it's paid for itself over and over. It will do 100 times better than by hand. There's a ton of threads here about the PC.

I'm actually in process of teaching a friend to use one. I've figured out that about the only way to damage the paint, even black, is to drop the machine on it. As long as the pad stays in contact with the paint and not the backing plate, you're good. I've got a scrap panel, and even with the most aggressive pad and compound I've got, I can't burn through paint. Just be sure if you're going with a PC, it will haze the paint. Whatever you choose, follow up a compound with something milder.

On my black Z, I use Meguiars M105/M205 combo when it needs it, then Clearcote Red Moose Glaze and top it with Poorboys Natty's Blue Paste wax. I've got a pic somewhere showing where I held a ruler up to the paint. You can actually read about 15" out clearly.

I know this is off topic but I painted a co-worker's mustang black a few years ago and to avoid the microscopic scratches that show from wiping a black car during a normal wash he hoses it off with a high pressure nozzle, throws warm soapy water on it, then hoses it back off with the high pressure, and then dries it with a leaf blower. I know it sounds retarded but the car still looks very good. Of course its garage kept and doesn't get very dirty but it seems to keep down on the scratching. Just thought I might pass it on. I just wipe mine....

Not weird at all. After I got my car, I did a correction and applied Opti-Coat 2.0. This is exactly how I wash my car when I get the chance. After a rain, it's not that easy. But using a leaf blower...win!
