I need to do an Oil change very soon and have been using 10w 30 mobile 1 synthetic is there anything better to use?

I have always run Royal Purple 5w30 in my car, street and strip.

There honestly is no "best oil" out there but there are lots of good choices. The LS1 and LT1 engine tend to like an oil that is near the top of the 30wt range, to the bottom of the 40wt range. So something in around 12-13cst at 100c, give or take 1cst, will work well on a hard driven car. If you don't drive it too hard, then just about any oil will do. (but I know most people on here drive very hard)

My LS1 runs 15W50, and my BBC runs 10W30, Mobil 1 or Quaker State. Interestingly, Reher Morrison told me to never run any type of colored oils.

I was reading one of Patman's posts, and he said that Mobil 1 0-40 would be one of the best oils to use for this engine, so that's what i've been using ever since!! Switching from Mobil 1 10-30 to 0-40 Really helped my oil pressure, and i'm sure protects better, cuz he said it should, and he knows his ****!

If you don't drive super hard very often, you can get away with something slightly thinner. This is why oil analysis is such a key role in picking the right oil for your particular needs.

That's exactly what I would have said. I was using 5 0r 10w-30 and switched to 0w-40 like Patman told me and my oil pressure improved. Thanks again Patman.

Same here. Went from about 30 at hot idle to 38-39. I want to run a 10W40 in the summer though. Wish Mobil 1 had it.

I do find it interesting that a 1300 hp BBC likes thinner oil than an LS1.
