I'd like to have a few more too....but remember we had about 35-40 cars at the Speedway last year.........which means you had as much track time as you wanted.
The only losers are the ones that didn't make it out and missed all the fun. Mustang Week pays the same as we do and they sit in line a lot.......while we're turning laps.

I also added the host hotel info up top.
The hotel is located on Bus 17 about 1/2 mile south of Ocean Lakes camp ground. Crabby Mike's seafood is about another 1/2 mile south of the hotel. Krispy Kreme is 3 miles south of hotel..lol
Guys ...this hotel has a large space for trailer parking. It would be nice to stay right on the beach but I could not get a hotel to block us rooms in the middle of vacation season. Besides most hotels on the beach don't have adequate parking.

I handed out a lot flyers at the AutoFAIR in Charlotte and the response was good. We'll hit up the G16 group too...as we should get some good support from this event.
Thanks to all those that are helping to spread the word.
No excuses......let's build this event up. If the Mustang guys can get 2500-3000 cars for Mustang week......surely we can get 150-200 Camaro's, Firebirds, G8's, GTO's, Vettes etc. Come on guys......we can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in pouring rain from about Ashville, NC until about an hour from Myrtle, it sucked. I was hydroplaning for a good 2 hours. Anybody know somewhere good in Myrtle Beach I can take my car to clean and detail it now?
I know there is a car wash in south myrtle on business 17 behind a gas station at an intersection (cant remember the street number) and there is one in North myrtle 1-2 miles past Dodges Chicken on the right coming from Myrtle. Thats where I took the vette last night as soon as I got back into town. I feel you about the hydroplaning. The NT05r's were not friendly in the rutted puddled roads.:eek2:

I'm not sure when everyone is heading out, but I'll be hitting up North Myrtle Beach Dragstrip in the afternoon. It's an 1/8 mile track not far off the beach. If anyone is interested let me know.

I just wanted thank everyone that braved the weather and made it to the event. Didn't rain a drop Friday or Saturday. We had 80+ cars at the show.....which was our best turnout since our group started running this show in 2009.
I hope everyone had a great time. Let me know if you have any feedback so we can try to make improvements. Just to let everyone know we had a food vendor set up but he lost his lease with the mall 3 days before our show. Other than that things went pretty much as planned.

Had a good time at the beach for the couple days i was down there now this comment is not coming out of bitterness because my car did win a trophy at the car show.
Some feedback in my opinion is that the judging at the car show could have been done better there was some favoritism shown in this show (again this is in my opinion). In my opinion the car that one best of show (still a nice car) but i work at the chevy dealership and know you can purchase this car the one that should have won had at least $20,000 in custom work done to from engine paint body and rims. The color scheme was carried out through out the entire car... And im sure im not the only person that thought this so you can take this comment however you feel but i am just expressing my opinion and giving you some feedback

I can absolutely assure you that there was no favoritism involved in the the two cars that you mentioned. I didn't even meet the guy until we called his name and he came foward to pick up the trophy. I didn't know the guy with the yellow car either.
We may have made an error...we're human and we could have made a mistake. Four different people judged the cars and we used the total score to determine the winner. We didn't have classes so it makes it very difficult to compare a heavily modied car to a mostly stock car. Our basic criteria was cleanliness and free of defects. We don't add points for mods.....nor do we deduct points when the mods are overdone....then you get into opinions.
Both cars were worthy of Best of Show....but we only had one Best of Show trophy. They still got a kick ass trophy that is better than 99% of the other awards at other shows. Personally I thought the white 67 Camaro and the ZR1 were equally worthy of the Best of Show.......but I only got one vote.
I hate judging new cars......it's almost impossible to separate one from another.
Thanks for the input.

I had a good time but my only complaint was that we only had an autocross event and we all only got one run around the speedway. I was really looking forward to the burnout competition and the drag racing on the front stretch. What happened to those events?
On another note, I'm still down here and just got back from cruising the strip. It's been soooo much fun messing with the Mustangs and getting looks from almost every one I pass.

The speedway messed up their scheduling.......they now have NASCAR Driving Experience and they scheduled runs on the same day as our event in error. Our track time was limited to an hour and half.....bummer.:(

I didn't mind the limited laps; I just wish they didn't put those tires so close together. One more space apart could have still kept us to safe speeds without having to tighten down on the brakes at every corner.

A friend of mine hit one of the tires and put a black strip all the way down the side of his white Camaro. He said when he looked in the mirror it was about about 5 ft off the track.

Gotcha, I guess I didn't realize that hindered the burnout competition and drag racing as well, I guess that makes sense.

Wanted to go, planned to go, was ready to go, then Saturday morning when I went in for work, I found out I was on a different route than my usual and I've only run it twice. So instead of getting off at 1 like I should have, I didn't get done till 3:30-4. Then getting cleaned up and the little over an hour drive, I would have missed it all anyway.

I had a tire on my trailer blow out on the way home. Luckily no damage to anything other than the tire.

I didn't get hurt at all luckily. The car isn't too bad, the catch cables missed the quarter panel by millimeters. It got the rear bumper cover, spoiler, and sail panel body wise. I've already got another spoiler and I'm going to pick a bumper cover up tomorrow. I also found another sail panel for $75 that I'm gonna get Friday. It also trashed the passenger front wheel and muffler. I was planning on getting it painted this winter anyway so I guess this is just forcing my hand a little lol.

These are all part of the growing pains of doing an event; it happens. Every large car event has them. The best thing to do is make suggestions or volunteer to help if you want to change things. I don't really have a dog in this event; I brought my vette and went to every schedule event and still had a good time.
The guy who started Mustang Week is a friend of mine and I've heard over the years about the headaches and hurdles involved in turning that event into what it is today. It just takes time...................... Learn from what went wrong and move forward.
Personally, I think everything is on the right path.
Darlington- rained out but nobody can forsee that.
MB Speedway- "if" they would have done all the events that I heard were supposed to happen, could have been fantastic (autocross, drive around the track, rolling burnout contest, drag race on front stretch, best sounding exhaust competition). Get on Youtube and search for Mustang week 2012 myrtle beach speedway; they had vaughn Gitten Jr drifting the track and a bunch of other stuff.
Cruise-In at Burkeys- This was good, just a good chance to eat and chat with gear heads
Cruise the strip after Burkeys- I hadn't done that in YEARS and it was fun watching everyone point and talk about your cars as you rode by
Car Show- Hey, its a car show. I'm not a huge carshow guy anymore but it was another great opportunity to see some beautiful cars, make new friends and chat with others that you had not seen since last years event.
Dinner that night- now this is something that is "not" scheduled but I did with a group of friends last year and this year. We met at Key West Grill at Broadway at the Beach, had dinner on the water and then rode the Jet Boat around the little lake they have there. (The damn thing had an LS3 engine in it and we were doing 360's and spraying water everywhere!) They have zip-lines across the lake, night clubs, gift shops, attractions, an aquarium etc.... something for everyone.
Farewell Breakfast Sunday- I'm not sure this happened but it could have been another great time.
My hats off to the guys that planned this event, I know it's not easy but you made it happen. If you need help, now is the time to start asking for it. I know a Marine that has a thousand connections and even within Chevrolet itself. All you have to do is give this woman a hill to conquer, point and say charge and you can consider it DONE!!! She was at the event last year with the Marine Corp Tribute Trans Am and she was at the event this year with the Red ZL1 and white ZR1. I'm telling you, she is an asset and you are missing-out, without utilizing her skillset!

my club and i have been going to this *different event* for nearly 10 years.
this year they combined it with the music festival
basically it is at Virginia beach, on the beach literally cars pulled onto the coastal boardwalk. always a good time!
they are always slow to get registration up, this is an all cars show, with brand divisions

Yeah...it's pretty sad......the F-Body crowd doesn't have the passion that the Mustang crowd has. I hate saying that but that's what I've experienced.
I have 4 f-bodies .....if it wasn't for the Super Chevy events I wouldn't have any place have some track fun other than our local drag strip.
I go to the drag strip almost every week but it's fun to do something different.
