Default 85mm tb

i have done alot of searches and basically found its not worth upgrading a stock ls1 ported tb for a 85mm tb. i have a bbk intake manifold and just wanted to get everyone's opinion on upgrading to a 85mm. There just seems to much of a lip on the stock tb to intake mani. Also what would you suggest for a tb. (bbk or pp.).?????

I'm not familiar with the BBK intakes but I had a Profession Products tb that was used and I couldn't get it it to come down off of about 2500 idle while it was rolling. If you had the car parked it would come down to around 1k but as soon as you cracked the throttle it jumped to 2500. I got sick of messing with it so I just bought a Shaner stock tb. If your set on getting rid of the stocker I would get the BBk just from my experience trying to adjust my PP. Honestly I would put the money elsewhere. GL

that's what i was afraid of . ive read bbk and pp tb's both have problems..... with idle and tuning...additional info needed. Cant see how going from 75mm. to 78mm to 85mm makes any sense. why dosent someone make a whole intake system.....or do they. everyone says dont touch maf. and i wont. but the transition just dosent flow right? where are all the smarties?????

I had zero problems with my PP throttle body (on PP intake). That one
came with a reducer plate to allow you to put it on the stocker, and I
bet you could hog that out in concert with the BBK (presuming they
bolt up right) to get a decent taper with minimal turbulence.

But doesn't BBK have an 80mm TB that's a dead simple fit-up?

Yes they have the 80mm. but I want a 85mm because the intake mani. is 85mm. Would the pp 85mm tb. bolt right up the bbk intake?

There should be ZERO issue swapping the stock TB for an 85mm TB on any intake. If your tuner has trouble w/ the idle, find a better tuner. As to the MAF, it can be descreened, as long as the MAF table is adjusted for it. Need to tune though. Don't expect to make the change without tuning for it.

Most who have idle issues have made intake related changes that can't be handled by the stock tune...changes are outside of the stock trims. The key is to make all of the mods, tune for them, then leave it alone. Even a simple thing like rotating the MAF will change the low frequency scaling of the MAF table. Usually, the stock "trims" can handle it. Noted it just to demonstrate how minor changes can effect the tune.

Get the BBK 85tb, or a edelbrock 90 tb and open up the SSI intake mouth for a smoot transition.
