Default building a iron block 6.2

building this for my father.. using a lq4 block and boring it to the stock bore of a l92. using a stock rotating assemby with new bearings, rings, gaskets, etc. stock manifolds for now, tbss intake, nick williams 90mm tb, ls2 timing chain with a ls6 pump. question is.... he doesnt want the truck to be loud since he hunts in it so no low lsa and wants a VERY smooth idle and make more low-midrange. truck will be using a stock 80e converter unless i can pick up a 3k stall for cheap. Camshaft option that i come up with is a 02-04 ls6 camshaft... anyone have any other ideas? would he pick up any power from say a 212/218 cam with more lift?

did some sanding today on the manifolds.. god they are horrible.

Anyone have some idea how a 214/220 .600/.523 115lsa "old man truck cam" from thunder racing would work for my app?

L92s are more tricky to cam...they don't like every cam profile like a cathedral port headed motor does...

Now I'm not a huge fan of "Custom" cams bc usually you can get the performance you want from an off the shelf grind...but in your case I would 100% say go with custom cam just because there are so many constraints on your build...good luck should be a nice truck

Then you're not building an L92. The primary difference aside from the piston size in an L92, is the rectangular port heads. Basically you're just building a 37Xci LQ4.

I'd say a nice little 224/228 just under .600" lift on around a 116lsa would work GREAT in this motor.....remember extra cubes eat up extra duration, so I think he should look at a larger than any stock or hot cam

it still needs to work with a stock 4l80e converter.. dunno if a 224/228 would do well.. and ive been told 4th gen headers will work with no clearance problems so ill be buying 1 3/4 inch black pacetters.

anyone have some info if a 216/222 .561/.566 115+3 would work decent for what im wanting to do? i know im leaving some torque off the table going with a ls6 cam vs an aftermarket grind.

Good deal on the L33. How did you score that!

In the first post you showed a pic of 2 manifolds. the one on the right looks great. Is that what you meant by sanding? Nice. Paint them with something high heat (Por 20 maybe).

Is the stock L92 piston dished? If it's flat top that might be too much compression to start with. I'd run the math multiple times before discarding the 317 heads. I'm looking to a set of 799s myself. I'll Give you $150 for them JK

If he really wants it quiet put a smallish turbo on it and retain the stock exhaust. Quiet City, BIG mid range torque, Dead smooth idle.

Your "L92" in a LQ4 block is an interesting budget friendly solution.
What did you have to give for the rotating assembly?

Your 3000GT/Stealth Needs air NOW!

Have a good one...

I paid 400 shipped for the rotating assembly which I didnt think was bad, as for compression it will have close to 11:1 and make NICE torque through the rpm range. As for the L33 it will be going in my s10.
