Yes.

It probably is normal Ls1 valve train noise, post a vid clip. Ls1s sound like sewing machines and are notorious for valve train ticks.
However, a "tick" and a "knock" are completely different things.

Either way, you could part the car and make double or more of your money back.

lol i see you fixed the picture. Just make sure thats the only problem. Is it auto or m6 and does it have any other problems, leaks, etc...? If everything else is good, thats a good deal.

ooh bad head gasket = lots of work. But without jumping to conclusions, ask him why he thinks it may need a headgasket. Check the oil dipstick to see if the oil overfilled, or milky/creamy. On a cold start, have the radiator cap opened, and tell him to turn the car on for you. If bubbles start surfacing on the radiator once it starts, then thats a bad sign. Has to be a cold start though.

I know plenty of people with 150+K miles Ls1s that run hard still.

If you are mechanically inclined a head gasket is a few hours worth of work and under 100$.

For 2,000$ if the motor/trans is good... Its a steal. I have seen rolls in not so good shape sell for that.

yeah. 160k miles isnt a lot on a ls1. However, doing headgaskets is a PITA. When you talk to the guy, focus on all the things that need work, and try to bring the price down as much as you can.

Yes, fix head gasket.

LOL

Exhaust/intake/free mods/tune.. Usual first mods.

My opinion? Replace everything that needs it.. General maintenance, fuel pump, etc.. Shocks.. Etc.
Fix cosmetic issues, hazy lights.. Torn seats, etc.. Make it a nice car, then mod it.

hopefully the head gasket isn't actually blown and I'm use to driving a beat up car. I'm currently driving a 79 nova and it isn't pretty trust me the only thing worth any money on it is the motor lol.

There is a LOT you can do to make a car nicer for 500$.

Check out my recent thread with the 00 Z28 we picked up for the GF. She has under 500$ in it since we bought it.
