Default Little worried about cam choice TR 224

I am a little worried that the cam I have chosen will not help me out all that much (TR 224/224 with a 112 lsa). I am currently at 365hp 385tq with all bolt-ons except for a TB. I am a little worried that the car won't make much more tq and maybe around 385-390hp after tunning. What do you guys think? Should the car pick up a decent amount of hp and tq? Or a decent hp and little tq if any at all?

I would say you're maxed out on bolt ons. Are you looking for a max effort cam, or one that is really streetable? I had that cam, and pulled 387 with it.

I am looking for a cam that will give good power throughout the RPM's and not shake me to death at a stoplight. Also would like to be able to run the A/C without the car wanting to die. I have seen people put smaller cams their cars and gain 25 or even 30 hp before tuning. I will be a little disappointed if I only gain 20 with a bigger cam with faster ramp rates. I am not saying I will gain more than 20, just that I would be disappointed.

You'll definitely get more than 20rwhp. I never dynoed before I put the TR224 in, but I'm guessing I was around 340. That cam took it to 387. So, 47rwhp was about my gain. Sound good now?

5 hours??? I know who I'm calling when I install my cam.

Jason... just do it and find out. If nothing else you can pull the cam out and swap in something bigger. The G5X1 is calling my name. I'm gonna give it some more street time though before I buy it. I want to see how bad it is about eating springs. I'm trying to find a streetable cam (doesn't have to be GREATLY streetable, just idle) that works with stock heads, will make 400 at the wheels with bolt ons, and let me run a set of springs for 15k miles without problems.

I was looking at the 227/224 a lot too but on a 112 because I don't want to spin any higher than 6500-6600. I may get a custom grind 227/227 or something along those lines... still not sure. Couple months away so I've got time to research more.

I would like to see a chassis dyno or time slips from a 227/227 TR custom grind. I would like to keep from spinning over about 6500 rpm too.

Well it isn't going to make squat if you don't get it out of that closet and in your car. What are you worried about. Once the springs are done we can always swap it out for another one if your dyno queen doesnt make enough power. What does it take us? About 5 hours, a crank bolt and 2 cans of freon?

Most of the thrill in owning these cars is realized 1320 feet at a time. Especially since you have a time to beat now, if you think you can.

Now let's get that cam in.

I should have them by the end of the month then we can install it. If I don't make the power I would like I guess I can just go ahead and pull the cam and bite the bullet and buy the LS1 Motorsports turbo kit.

It peaked about 6300-6400rpms so it's going to turn a few more rpms then you are wanting too. I would recommend a TR224 112lsa cam for shifting 6500rpms. Hope this helps....

LSA = Lobe Separation Angle. Affects the amount of intake/exhaust event overlap. A narrow angle means both valves will be open at the same time for a longer period than with a wide angle. This aids in high rpm power production, but hurts idle quality.

Basically... the lower the LSA number, the rougher the idle. The advantage of a lower LSA is it keeps the peak horse power lower in the RPM band. Say... a 114 LSA cam peaks at 6500 RPM's where a 112 LSA cam peaks at 6200... just an example, but that's the basics behind it. The higher the number, the better the idle, and the higher you have to spin the motor to make peak power.

I want to shift at 6500 and have my limiter set at 6600... no higher, so I'm going to go with a 112 or maybe 111 LSA. I don't really care about idle quality as long as it doesn't surge horribly in traffic.
