Default Do I have the wrong head gaskets on my LQ4 with LS3 heads?

For some ungodly reason I put 12589227 (ls2) gaskets on my LQ4 with LS3 heads. From what I understand these are the 4.039 headgaskets. The LS3 has a combustion chamber width of 4.080. The LS3 gaskets are 4.094, (Part no 12610046). This will result in an exposed fire ring.
Car will be a daily driver with 222/230 cam. Am I totally screwed with this setup? Do I have to get swap out the gaskets, or can I run with them?

LQ4 have a stock 4 inch bore, or even if it's .030 over you should still be ok.
The gasket will be compressed between the block and head fine.

You do not want any gasket edge in the combustion chamber...not worth it street engine or not.

It really doesn't matter what the bore is-OP states his LS3 heads combustion chamber is 4.08 so his head gasket should also be 4.08 or larger.I think he knows his smaller gasket edge is exposed and like allready stated this isn't good.He wants to know what will happen if he runs it like that.I don't actually know -just that you shouldn't do it but also know that other people on here have used smaller gaskets than their heads chamber requeired and they are running them so ?.

Right. I know it is bad, but how bad? Like, blow a head gasket bad, or what?

It's a pain but pull it apart and put the correct headgaskets in there. Eliminate the potential for headache later. jmho

When I did the swap I started by buying the 227 gaskets, but found I needed the 046 gaskets when I did my L92 head swap. Had to swap them out at the dealearship.

Get the 046's

The gaskets are fine... The l76 is a 6.0 with the l92 heads and uses a stock 6.0 head gasket? Or have you had your chambers enlarged?

Call the dealership and tell them you have an 09 G8 with an L76 and they will give you the 046 replacement head gaskets. They have superceeded them.

for that reason...they should work fine, but, when GM realized the LS3 gaskets would work on the L76/L98 engines, they **** canned them to save money.

So will my gaskets be ok? Remember, I have 4.00" bore, 4.080" heads. My mechanic says we'll wait for the compression test after the tune to decide.

I would cut my losses now and get the 046 gaskets. I ran them on mine without issue.

12589227 gaskets are no bueno. My mechanic said the rings were charred and the heads looks to suffer from heat warp. To recap, head gasket diameter should be greater than the greater of the bore and the chamber diameter.
