Pontiac Firebird 1967-2002 - Question for the experts

Hi guys,

Im going to look look at an 150k '01 Formula. The guy said that the previous owner installed a lower mile LS1 out of a '02 TA. My f-body knowledge is limited to the '70s and '80s. Is there something the TAs had (aside from ram air) that the Firebirds didn't? Something I could look for to confirm the swap?

Honestly, the 01 and 02 motors were the same, so it would be near impossible to verify the motor was changed without tearing it down.

01-02 cars had 241 heads and a LS6 intake (no EGR provisions).

*Some* 01-02 cars came with an LS6 block, but not all. You can check that by going here:

Basicly what the guy above posted always great purchasing your first ls1 fbody I remember when the I got mine like yesterday its been a long 11 years been thru a lot and the only thing that didn't change is its still my one and only ls1 car a lot has changed but the block and rotating assy. Is still original

Make sure you do your homework and get verification of work done. Do NOT pay too much for any car with that kind of mileage even if the engine swap was done. Be careful!

yeah the milage on the motor is not going to incrase the value pay what what the value is on the odometer, if the formula was not pre 2000 there wont be any differences at all, its basicly the same motor so its not going to make any difference in power or price. now if it had a not stock ls1 then it might be worth a bit more.

He stared out at $6500 but has since dropped it to $5000. The guys over at FirebirdNation said $4500 max.

That is still high in my opinion. After reading the thread, he doesn't know for sure if the motor was replaced or not, just that the PO told him it was and he is skeptical about it.

Then he lists what is wrong:

Things it needs are common with these cars, dash pad is cracked, driver seat has a tear, 2 ac vents are broke, center console lid hinges are broke, driver side headlight roars when it goes down, door panels are cracked, and has a few nicks dings and scratches on the body.

Those might be common items, but the price he is asking is on par with what a good condition car with those miles would get, not a car with all those little problems. Those little things can add up to a few thousand easily.
