Single Digit Club - SAM Racing/Bobby Lashley race engines?

I have been trying to figure this out for awhile now. How reliable are the SAM racing engines in the 99 Camaro? Its a 433 with about 1000hp and spinning to 9500rpms. And Bobby Lashley's NA 427.
I love the engine and what they do with and will buy one(or similar) very soon from some builder. And Ill do the same in my area. But really how reliable is it?
A very good friend and expert when it comes to engine combos says that engine cant be very reliable. More than 2hp per CI cant be that reliable, I agree with him on that. That is a VERY exotic engine.
When I am ready to buy an engine I have NO problem spending the probably $50k+ it would cost to build this but I wont have a team and wont be sending it back to the builder every two weeks for three weeks down time with a 10k bill at the end.
Is a 1000hp LSX NA reliable possible or should I just scrap the idea and go with a BBC with a carb? I want to go with and LSX engine. And have no problem spinning high revs. And have no probably spending a lot of money to buy the engine. But I wont be paying a team to maintain it. It needs to last at the very least one season hopefully two.
Any real people in the know, know what I can do? My goals are mid to low 8s with a stripped 4th gen with a Lenco or similar.

Maintence maintence and more maintence. I know the sam car the valve springs are checked every run for one. North of a inch of lift on that mofo. Too much to list, Those are serious engines and needs a serious team and program to stay running smooth.

Thats what I thought. And only people with an "endless" supply of money can afford that type of maintenance. Is it possible to get that kind of power from an LSX in a more cost effective kind of way for the "normal" guy without power adders?

Reliable? Depends who you are. Those motors get torn apart and checked fairly often. Also isnt lashlys engine from Vengeance/Proline?

Power adder would be the best bet for a 1000 hp and hopefully be reliable. Does it have to have a 1000 hp you? I would just build a combo to get you to your ET goals.
The proper selection of parts, the proper assembly and break in, as well as routine maintainence are critical to the success and reliability of this type of engine. I just finished installing my 418 ci LS engine with Mozez canted valve heads. Oil, valve springs, spark plugs, etc. will be changed quite often with an anticipated engine freshen up at around 100 runs (hopefully).

I cant speak for the crew at SAM, but Bobby was able to race his engine all last year without cracking a valvecover. The only real maintenance that was performed was on the clutch after every couple passes.

No it doesnt have to be a 1000hp, but I think thats what I would need to run 8.teens-20s. Car would be stripped.

If you got the $$$$ like you say you do, any of them can get it done for you.
Others I'd strongly look into:

I was looking at Proline's website the other day. They have an LSX listed rated at 1200hp. Is that with with a power adder or is that just the engine?
I would assume thats an up to number of what it could handle with a twin turbo set up since the other engines listed are rated up to 3200hp and say nothing about power adders and there is no way 3200 could be NA.

Proline can build exactly what you want. Their reputation is awesome. Problem is you can't buy an LSX engine from them direct. There are many people that would buy from them if they could leave the middle man out.
Billy Briggs has built the highest HP N/A engines to date.

You would have to ask Pro Line that question.
That's the policy I was given a few years ago.

I wonder/doubt they still have that policy now? I would bet if you got the $$$$, they aren't going to turn you away from the door now.

Tim, Proline doesn't turn away business. They simply refer all LSX customers to Vengeance Racing. We have been the exclusive LS distributor for Proline for a bit over two years now.
The same goes for Lamborghini engines. Proline builds all UnderGround Racing engines and sends anyone who contacts them directly to UGR.
We have had a very good relationship with Proline and our track record for building reliable/big power combinations together speaks for itself.

I called Pro Line today and asked them their policies.
If you're having a race application built, then they'll deal direct with the customer.
If it's a street application then they want the transaction to go through the middle man.
Hope this helps.

Nope did pull one valve cover because O ring was leaking. That was it. Never had not one single issue for two years. Total of 200 plus runs. Pulled motor after first year to check internals. Only replaced rings and bearings. Block only had to be honed. Change plugs because I felt sorry for them. Never had to do nothing but put in trailer, take it out of trailer and tune for track conditions. Even with the 5 speed car was very consistent within a few hundredths every run. It was built to last and have fun with.
Would definitely give HKE a shout. The Mozez headed 468ci they did for David Lazear was making 1100HP~ and was like a big bracket engine, low maintenance and super reliable.
