Hey guys, I made a thread about this awhile back asking if a 2002 T/A WS6 with Magnaflow exhaust and a k and n intake with 118k miles is worth 12k or not at a dealership which there trying to sell it. They said that there going off NADA retail which is 12k for the car. The car is in GREAT condition(no leaks, engine starts right up,no whine noises while idle or driving, smooth ride, automatic shifts smooth and goes when needed too, knock on wood) I also did a video reving the engine(while warm) all the way to red line to see if it had smock out the back and there was nothing, not even a little(knock on wood). Also the oil is right where it should be and is clean. T-tops don't leak and the overall car is is awesome shape for a 2002(garage kept). So I was just curious if that deal seemed alright, cause that's all they are willing to budge since there paying off my trade in car.:hump:

No. I payed $11k for mine with 95k miles. Had pullie, lid, headers, Y pipe, catback, and a dyno tune done on it. That was a little high, but I really needed/wanted a car (wanted) and it was very very clean. And it was a 6 speed, which drives the price up. So I'd say that is too much. If you could get it for 10k, then I'd go for it, but otherwise I think you are overpaying.

EDIT: How much are they paying off on your trade in car? Didn't see that...what would the deal be? What car?

I bought a 2002 T/A ws6 m6 with 73k for 11.5k.. granted it was private party.. but for that mileage I would try and talk them down. I know when I was looking the prices in the midwest seemed the highest to me. I guess it might depend on where you live.

Way too HIGH with that mileage. Any car with that mileage is going to need things sooner than later. You don't need to have $14,000++ invested in a 10 year old car with well over 100,000 miles. That's what you would be looking at.

Thats what I paid for mine (out the door)

You can make a deal, they wanted to charge me 11.5k total (i financed a bit of it)

Your best argument would be about the mileage, you can tell/argue that GM tranmissions are notorious for going out before 150k miles (mine did :violin: )

Specs for mine when i bought it:
2001 white convertible
K&N intake
Full sound system
Exhaust (tips & muffler)
107k miles
OTD for $10,100 Taxes, lisc, reg, and whatever else

Bottom line is go with your gut instinct, if YOU like it and YOU feel it is a good price dont let anyone put you down.

People gave/give me crap about buying a vert... but when I drop the top and cruise down PCH (pacific coast highway)... i get more looks/props than 98% of cars :burn:

haaa thanks man, and yea im good with the t-tops sorta a vert. The transmission seems to shift fine and all that, but just to make sure im putting a 0 dollar deductable that fixes anything that goes wrong(rear end, trans, engine, expensive parts)for no money out of my pocket. =) I think 10k is all they will do. I would be super happy if they did 9500 that price just sounds cheap to me.

The stock wheels that came on the 2002 WS6 are one year only, I think, and look like this. They are polished but not chrome. Are these the ones?

I have a 98 TA and it had 72,000 miles on it when I bought it for $8900. Id say keep looking, pick up an auto rv, they're in there with lower mileage and much much cheaper every week! I'd stay away from a dealer, just my opinion. Good luck!

That's a little better as long as you are actually out the door and in the driver's seat for that $10,000. Still too high to me but not as bad as the $12,000 you initially talked about.

I paid $10k for mine out the door and made the dealership put new visors, cats, and passenger window motor on the car. It had 77k and is an A4 and except for those parts was damn near perfect for a 2002.

Can't you find anything with lower mileage?? Sure, $9,500 is even better, but not much as you could still find yourself $11,000+ into this car in just 2 short years. Now try to sell it for decent money with 140,000+ miles or whatever on it at that time. You might get $6,000 - $7,000 for it if it is running decent but that's a potentially $5,000 hit in those two years. Is it 'worth it'?? This is just an 'example' of something to consider. We can't predict the future. Maybe this depreciation isn't much when compared to buying a new 2012 SS at $40,000 and having it worth $30,000 after two years, but eveyone has their own limits and feelings about it. Keeping the car a long time really negates the depreciation factor. When I have bought new cars I worry about the impact of selling immediately. Fortunately I have kept my new cars many years and the impact was minimal and worth every penny. Another example: Bought a 1996 Formula for approx $22,000 new back in July '96. I sold it Dec 2004 for $7,000 with almost no repair work over those years, just maintenance. That is an average of roughly $1,750 per year for an incredible ownership experience. Worth every dollar. I probably wouldn't have been happy having paid $4,000 per year. That's just me. Hopefully you can see where I am coming from. Best of luck with your decision.

I paid about 10k for mine but what was funny was they tried to charge me 11k until I told them I had seen it on craigslist for 10k where they had it advertised there. they wouldnt budge on price after that though because its a military town and they knew some dumb fresh out of AIT private with a bonus would come by eventually.

What area are you in? Around here, that is about right for dealer price. Keep in mind that the dealer is going to clean that thing up real nice to try and sell it. It may have a few problems that they have temporarily hidden. I was a detailer at a dealership for a few years and I hate to admit it but we definitely clean some things up knowing full well that they won't stay looking as nice once they're actually being driven for a while. GM transmissions, particularly the ones in those cars, are notorious for being finicky if they're not properly maintained. Also, be weary of the dealership you're getting it from. I was at a ford dealership and with the exception of covering up some of the small things that weren't safety or performance oriented, we were pretty honest. But if you go to some of these smaller dealerships, some of them can be pretty shady. My last question is if your 10k out the door is including the payoff on your vehicle?

I paid 13.5k for my 02 ws6 bone stock original owner 80k mile car 2 years ago. A lot of people said i paid too much.... Well fuck em! Lol, if you really love the car and feel its worth what you think its worth, thats the main thing. Logic doesnt rule every purchase!

you guys are making me feel amazing about what I paid for mine... I most definitely stole her :) car in sig, 71K miles at purchase (rare-ish combo hardtop 6-spd and originally NBM) 5675 + I had to put 4 new tires on it for 638.. final total ~6300... deals are out there if you're willing to wait. That was 4 years ago this August, even with the minimal mods I've done I can sell it and not have lost a penny. THAT is what you want to find :)

P.S. none of you may hold this against me IF I try to sell the car later LOL

I got my 99 Firebird with 110k for $2500 from a co worker. Engine was making a noise, but everything else was flawless and had been garage kept for 2-3 years. I bought the car knowing I was going to replace the engine, and the next few weekends my buddy back home (I am deployed) will be building my 5.7L and swapping it in. $9k in goodies going into this little beastie a year after I bought it :)

Got my 2002 T/A ws6 in September this past year for $12,000. Came with high/low and fog HID lamps, tower bar, aftermarket stereo system and all paperwork on the car. I'm
2nd owner...no rust anywhere underneath, mint condition paint and newer toyo proxes on it. Of course, it's a 6-speed and the owner before was a lady in her very early 50's who owned a dealership w/ her husband.

Personally, I wouldn't own the automatic and I think the asking price is way too much. If you take your time and look, you'll find what you're exactly looking for. This car took me 7 months to find and I found it going to look at another ws6 in Michigan that had less mileage though. Problem with that car...been backed into 2 times and paint was a flat silver and it was noticeable.

Yes nada is like 12,300 but i def think you can get them to come down. If not sometimes you honestly just have to walk away. I negotiated heavily on my gto i just purchased. Took me 3 days to get the deal i wanted but i got them to come $2300 under nada. I have walked away before from certain deals. And if u finance go through a credit union and get a better interest rate. Only thing is with most credit unions they will only finance clean trade value but id tell the dealership if they can do 10,500 then you accept. If not you walk.Just my suggestion
