So the times slowing closing in on the April 12-15 car show in Gatlinburg!!! I posted about this awhile back, but wanting to see how many people plan on going. Finishing the last touches on my Hugger SS before we head down!

Is it in Gatlinburg or in Pigeon Forge?

It's always in Pigeon Forge. There isno parking in G'burg! I'll swing by since it's only 1 county over.

This event at one point was pretty wild. the cops have really tamed it down over the years. :( 2003ish was the last year I really had a great time.

Unless things have changed, the F-Body crowd meets at the bank in front of the Dollywood light (light #9 maybe?). If anyone that's been - you might have met 'Wild Ron' whos had a bunch of F-body's over the years. anyway, I have his old convertible now.

Sorry your right, its in pigeon forge lol our cabins in gatlingurg so my bad! Anyways, my dad has been going since he was a kid and said it used to get REALLY crazy down there. Sadly it has tamed up a lot. But you still see burnouts, exciting rednecks to watch, etc. Did see a guy dump his chopper doing a burnout in a bucket of water someone dumped for people to use last year lmao. Havent met Wild Ron yet nor been to the f-body meeting spot. Will have to go this year for sure!

Ill be going. I live about 15 minutes from pigeon forge. If you do go, DO NOT go onto the spur (stretch of road that separates pigeon forge and gatlinburg) after 7pm or so... unless you want to sit in traffic for a few hours in the woods lol

Ron is a character for sure! Does great work on F-cars too, so if you need any work done while there, give him a shout.

I've seen guys pouring water into the street for burnouts many of times. Most times, people run to fetch water from hotel pools with 5 gallon buckets. :) Sadly, this has become rare as well. The traffic barely moves, so the cops can literally walk through traffic to issue tickets.

I have pics from 'the good old days' of a dozen+ women flashing for beeds in the back of lifted pick-ups going down the road. The thing to do was to get behind those trucks! :)

They definitely still flash teh boobz!! Though burnouts are RARE now, if not extinct. Cruising during the day around 10am to 6-7ish its fun as can be because you are actually moving.. After 7 or so, it gets to be dead stop. It used to be WALL TO WALL bad ass cars, now sadly there are tons of "civilian" cars and jacked up trucks (which i care nothing about).

Derek, what day/days you planning on being there? we will have to cruise up together.

what are the dates? At this point, any day could work. I won't really know till the date gets closer. If it's the week of April 7th, I'm busy. Navy Seal Extreme Challenge in Cosby, TN!

These posts are so very true. Ever since 2002-2003 the event has turned into an event with heavy law enforcement and I have witnessed a lower turnout of muscle cars and an influx of large SUV's and trucks. I guess it just comes down to the economy though. Muscle cars have risen in price, both to own and restore, and the older generation that frequented the event yearly up until a decade or so ago seems to be slowly leaving the event. And the younger crowd seems to be creating a 4x4 niche at the event that has left many people feeling like the muscle car cruise scene is shrinking at night. Last year I did comment on the amount of non-modified traffic out at night during the cruise as it was the most I believe I have ever seen since I started going in 97'. It definately clogged up the lanes and many of the nicer vehicles choose not to go out into the parking lot that developed after 7pm.

I find thats 100% of the traffic in seviereville, pigeon forge, and gatlinburg any time after like 7AM..

I went up around labor day, took me 4 HOURS to get from the ihop in pigeon forge to I-75.

Sorry guys.. I'm not gonna deal with that again. Like to go.. but Atlanta's traffic is better during rushour.

Taking HWY 321 from PF to Maryville is a much prettier drive! Several ways in/out besides I-75.

As time gets closer, I'll try and schedule a meet and greet event. Perhaps morning eat, and then cruise up to the event. Anyone up for a trip up and back through tail of the dragon / Deals Gap on the way?
311 turns in 11 miles. We would have to do it both ways in order to go back to the Rod Run.

I'll try and get my good friend in B'ham to come up for it.

west texas blues, did it for me. He post a lot in the multimedia section in the sticky photoshop thread. numbers id say around 385-410hp and 370-390tq.
you should click off some low 8 high 7 second 1/8th mile passes if you can 60ft in the 1.8xs around 87-90mph. just a guess though

yes i definitely understand the strict enforcement they have now. my family went since the mid 90's. my brother owned a black/gold stripe pro street 1970 442 w30 with a blown BBC. he used to do burnouts from one red light to the next and he was never bothered by cops and the bystanders loved the action ofcourse. now, if they hear your tires even squeal, they pull you over

This is true. Now there is so much traffic a night, cops are on foot and can issue tickets through traffic - average speed @ night is probably 1-2mph on most of the strip. Do a burnout and you have no where to go.

Who's in for a deal's gap ride on Saturday? The weather for this weekend looks pretty awesome: Click (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Pigeon+Forge&state=TN&site=MRX&textField1=35.7927&textField2=-83.5581&e=0)

For those that don't know, Deal's Gap is the famous stretch of road that has 318 turns in 11 miles. More info: click (http://www.tailofthedragon.com/)

This is what I'm thinking:
Saturday morning, meet up in Townsend, TN at 11:30am (~35 minute drive from Pigeon Forge).
Drive on Foothills parkway, stop at one of the overlooks and do a group photo.
Drive the dragon.
Stop for lunch at the end.
Then reverse our steps back to the Rod Run.

Total Distance is about 112 miles (from Pigeon Forge, and back to PF), and roughly 4.5 hours with the 2 stops (photo, and lunch).

Add your name to the list if you are interested. I may have a conflict, but if lots of people sign up, I can use that to talk my wife out of our plans. :)

So RodRun is the reason for visiting, but you intend to stay in the cabin all weekend vs. enjoying a nice afternoon outside with car guys? If so, you should have picked a less busy weekend than RodRun if you wanted to enjoy a quiet weekend.

Just a heads up on the Gap. Some of my supermoto buddies have a summer house right across the road from the store. They said the TSP will have 2 units patrolling, and Blount County will have 1, everyday, all day, all summer. starting last weekend. They even set up a license check down on the lake last Sat. Looks like theyre really cracking down this season and gonna try and milk all the money out of tourists with as many tickets as they can.
Not discouraging the ride at all, def worth the visit and drive if you havent been before. Or even if you have. Just figured id give a heads up to those who plan on attending.
And on your drive thru, please stay in your lane, no straightening the curves. On a pretty sat like its supposed to be this weekend, motorcycle traffic will be pretty heavy both ways. Already had a death 2 weeks ago with a woman and a car. Car cut a corner and hit her head on. Ive had numerous close calls myself. Not trying to preach to you, but being a 2 wheeled nut myself just figured id try to help out where i could. Im sure im preaching to the chior, but just keep that in the back of your mind over there.

not surprised. It's a good place for revenue, and a place where a lot of showoffs have been seriously hurt.

I'm sure though you'll all be keeping it the speed limit right? ;)

I got myself a cabin, I may drop by and look, but I doubt I'll be part of the "ceremonies" or anything. I just want to get away for the weekend.

Not trying to preach to you, but being a 2 wheeled nut myself just figured id try to help out where i could. Im sure im preaching to the chior, but just keep that in the back of your mind over there.

Good point to anyone that goes. This is nothing new in the last few years, but worth mentioning if you have never been.

The speed limit is now 30 or 35mph, but I have a picture somewhere from the early 80s of a bike parked in front of a 55mph speedlimit sign. Pretty neat to see, but then you quickly wish it was the same speed now - especially considering the advancements in tires, suspension, cars, and the road surface is better now too. Oh well. I hear the cops head out in the late afternoon, by the way. :)

So RodRun is the reason for visiting, but you intend to stay in the cabin all weekend vs. enjoying a nice afternoon outside with car guys? If so, you should have picked a less busy weekend than RodRun if you wanted to enjoy a quiet weekend.

i wont be in the cabin all weekend long. only to sleep and when its too hot outside. im here for the cars! id be on the strip walking/driving all weekend, but my girlfriend wanted the expensive cabin, and she wants 1/2 my time this weekend too. ive convinced her to let me get up with the sun, and walk the strip each day. then when the sun is setting, cruise the strip until it starts dying down. so i thought i was doing good bc my proposal ideas usually get thrown out the window. maybe next trip my group will leave the girls at home. ha! at least we got a good sized group going. 3 ls1 TA's, 2 mustangs (Cobra & GT), and a 350z nismo. were on short leashes but at least we have each other. lol

Since no one is showing interest for the Dragon run, I've switched my plans and I'm now going hiking on Saturday, and will swing by the rodRun on Sunday with no plans to drive the dragon.

I'll be in the car in my sig (which now has the roll bar), with the top down. I probably won't be out there till about 1:30pm on Sunday - in which case I'm sure many people will be on their way out of town by then.

F-Body's used to park in the grass at the Home Federal bank before dollywood. I'm not sure if this is still the case of not. If you are lowered you may have a hard time getting over the small curb. Someone used to bring homemade wodden ramps just for this.

Here is the street view: click (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=pigeon+forge&hl=en&ll=35.782239,-83.550077&spn=0.000004,0.002401&hnear=Pigeon+Forge,+Sevier,+Tennessee&gl=us&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=35.782239,-83.550077&panoid=mkojTVeAzCU1DIW3bxo0pg&cbp=12,7.76,,0,8.35)

^USMC....walked by your car about 2 hours ago, looks awesome! Hugger with a Quantico parking sticker? I'm up here with the family, car's at home. We loaded my wife's suv down since we've got two small kids, it would've been unbearable in an fbody. If I get back down there tomorrow, I'll stop in and see ya.

I'm a slacker, got a 3 yr old and a 10 month old, we left out last night about 6 heading home. I didn't want to fight the traffic, plus I left the Camaro at home anyway. We did! come in Tuesday night though. Enjoyed all the cars, especially some 1st gens and 4th gens. Everybody be safe heading home and we'll see ya next spring!
