Default Question about Truck accessories.

I need to convert my F body accessories to the truck set up. What all has to be changed? Is the water pump the same? And is the compressor mounted differently? I am going this weekend to pull parts and want to make sure I get everything the first time. Thanks

Its all different if i recall correctly. Even the balancer is different. Id grab it all. I also think your intake setup may have to be changed unless u do a mod so that the tb doesnt hit part of the bracket or water pump. I forgot exactly but grab it all.

Ill second that its all different. I think I read that the truck is 0.75" different and the car stuff is only 0.5" from the block. Grab it if its what u want

Yes I found LS1/LS6 intake will not work with truck accessories because the throttle body is lower and hits the water outlen neck on the truck pump. Plus the serp belt on the truck setup goes right in front of the LS1/LS6 intake. There is a kit, I saw on a thread somewhere on this site, that moves the idler pulley further down between the alternator and the power steering pump so the throttle body clears the belt. plus I knoe the car water pump is closer to the block than the truck. You will need spacers to move the car pump out to mach the truck pulleys. From what I read if you use the truck accessories with the car intake you need to use the car water pump with spacers and the idler relocator kit.

Lots of good info from 99vette.

What is bugging me, is why do you "NEED" convert to truck accessories?? Seems most go in the other direction towards parts that sit closer to the engine and clean up the engine bay a little. I know I'd rather have car accessories over the truck ones...but if I keep the manual steering box I won't worry about any of it and just get an alternator only bracket.

I think the car accessories should work just fine in your Chevelle. The truck stuff is just easier to get. More common.

I think a vvt truck water pump will work with the intake, or at least I don't recall any issues when mocking mine up with the ls3 intake a couple months ago. Will double check over the weekend to make sure so don't take that as gospel, but I recall testing everything at some point after I took some pics. Here is a post doing my best to compare a regular pump from an lq9 and a vvt style truck pump from an l92 (the silver one is the lq9 one). Main functional difference looks to be the vvt outlet neck coming off lower to the side. Can't tell how it might work for an ls1/6 intake though.

How much is a vvt water pump or what year did it come off of?

No idea about cost, came off an l92, new caddy I guess.
I just posted a couple pics of my setup, but after thinking about it I can't say for certain if it would work for anyone else. Until I get a 4 bolt tb there is no good way for me to know.

I inspected an 08 6.2 suburban today and the VVT waterpump has more room behind it. doesn't look like other accessories are different. Looks like it should work with older truck accessories. The upper hose neck exits on almost a 45* angle from the pump toward the passenger side and the tube itself is straight not bent. The upper hose is a little different at the end too. I think that would give the clearance on the car intake to the truck accessories.

My 6.0 with vvt came out of an 08' 2500 silverado, ls1 PWRd NOVA, and my ls3 intake does clear the water pump. It's close, but it clears.

NOPE. At least not with my VVT water pump + L76 intake manifold - take a look at my thread for pics of the interference. (I even flipped the TB over 180* to try to make it work, but then it ran into my Kwik brackets.) It might work with a cable TB (I don't have any idea), but it sure as heck didn't work with my stock, 90mm DBW TB.

However, I just dropped $185 on a 5th-gen Camaro water pump, & it looks like that's going to work beautifully!!

For the sake of clarity, the 5th gen pump will work with truck accessories and car intake?

I'm not 100% sure about the 5th gen pump with the stock VVT truck FEAD, but I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work with it. My setup is the L76 car manifold + the KwikPerf bracket setup that moves the alternator & P/S pump to the Corvette positioning, but maintains the truck spacing from the block.

When I had the stock truck water pump on the front of the engine, the TB was directly contacting the upper radiator hose fitting - so closely that there wasn't even room to put a hose on that fitting. The 5th gen pump completely moves that upper outlet so that it's pointing forward from the engine, rather than pointing up at 10-11 o'clock like the truck pump.

I'll try to get my pics edited & posted soon so that it's easier to see what I'm saying. Hopefully tonight.

You can also just run a truck pulley on an F-body water-pump. That's what I did on my LQ4 with L92 heads and LS3 intake. It solves the gooseneck/TB interference issue but still gives you truck pulley spacing.
