Car is a mildly modified 06 GTO M6....weighs in at 4000lbs with me in it and makes 422rwhp/400rwtq with bolt ons and a mild cam......seems like with the cam in it now on a hard launch it slipps the clutch in 1st gear........also on a hard shift into 3 or 4th it slipps a hair too.........seems like the ole ls2 clutch is giving up espically since i put the cam in the car........question is what are you guys running for good stock feeling street clutches to hold up to 450-500rwhp or so.......i was looking at the ACT GM9-HDSS possibly .........any suggestions welcome!!

thanks!!!
Mike

LS7 clutch would work well if you're going to stick w/ the power you have now and don't hit the track often...stock feel to it, good clutch for a DD/"cruiser".

I'd go w/ the Monster if you plan on adding more power in the future or frequent the track, it'll take the abuse better than the LS7.

I'm in the same boat, my stocker w/ 23K (18K w/ mods in sig) is finally starting to slip...it's fought the good fight for years, lol. I'm torn on which one myself...might just go w/ the LS7...the stocker lived this long and the LS7 is stronger. FWIW my car is just a "cruiser"...no track time and very few hard digs on the street.

Agreed with all of the above.

I'm all about Monster or Mcleod.

Mcleod's drive amazing though.

After I got my cam installed I went to the track and had no 2nd ,3rd or 4th gear and smelled clutch all the way home , So i replaced it it with RPS twin disc clutch a little more aggressive than stock but you won't have to worry about that problem again !

Another vote for the LS7 clutch.

My first couple rounds of mods put me in the 500rwhp range and I went with the Monster Stage 3. Great customer service and the clutch hold the power with no slippage. Not the friendliest clutch for driving around town. Frequent chatter when you try to slip it at lower rpms (all it wants to do is grab).

I got a great deal on an ACT twin which will be going in shortly. Good reviews from other cars but have not heard much from folks running them in GTOs

Is your car all done in regards to the 454 swap? Saw it on NEPs homepage...nice. How about that minitub? Your car is gonna be badass...makes me want to sell some toys and dump some $$ in mine.

My clutch in my GTO is slipping now too, so bad that with the car in gear on a hill it will roll backwards. hahaha. I have a Monster Stage 3 in my Camaro SS and that is what I am going to be putting in the GTO.

Pedal feel is a little bit heavier than stock, I have never had a clutch chatter issue like other people have, customer service is top notch at Monster.

yea im leaning towards the LS7.....car doesn't see the track at all virtually i got the old LT1 for that lol..........id like to run the monster but im afraid of it destroying the rest of the drivetrain ie drive shaft and axles.......

im between the monster stage 2, the act gm9-hdss, the mccleod street twin or the LS7..........leaning towards the LS7...........anybody try an LS9 clutch yet??

i had a spec 3+ with alum flywheel in my 06 (aps tt) and it worked like a champ for 35k into my car was totaled out.the 05 i picked up has the LS7 in it and i have to say its crap, doesn't like high rpm shifts.soon as tax money comes spec will be getting a call

Sure, you can get an LS9 clutch kit. But it's kinda pricey! You have to use a custom flywheel because of the flywheel bolt pattern.

There are a lot of great reviews for the Mcleod RXT twin on this forum. It can be bolted to a stock flywheel or they have SFI flywheels for it.

The ls7 will be perfect if you're not planning on tracking it.

If you plan on beating on the car at all, shell out for a Mcleod or something along those lines.

Is that with the flywheel?

You need to get the LS7 Flywheel for it to work.

Well the ls7 flywheel has raised points on it that the pressure plate bolts to that arent on any other flywheels. So unless youre aftermarket one looks like this.....you need to get one.

Textralia OZ700 clutch and I have been through a few clutches; 4 to be exact. The Tex feels exactly like stock and will hold over 550 ft-lbs. Other clutches mentioned in this thread have a very heavy pedal and all that does is push your crankshaft into the thrust bearing. The key to any clutch is proper installation in terms of shimming.

I found a clutch manufacter from Australia that has been building clutches for our cars down under for years now. I spoke with Manitc and had them send me one of their clutches. I met them at SEMA this past year and their products look great!
I'm getting ready to put the clutch into my car here really soon, so I'll do a write up on the install and performace once completed.

I saw those Mantic clutches... They come in a foam filled suit case, and it's probably very expensive.
