I guess there is no love between the new owners and the old owners. So, I am not sure who they might recruit to help them run the dragstrip.

this is interesting. some friends of mine showed up to Lakeland Dragstrip tonight for test-n-tune only to find out it has been sold and is closed temporarily also. no drag racing in central florida for awhile it seems. unless you go to cfrc

From my understanding Lakeland Dragstrip will be reopening under new ownership February 26th. It sucks to see any of local dragstrips shut down since it will limit our options but we are lucky enough to still have BMP.

I am saddened by all the drama. It is too bad the transition could not have been amicable.

yeah, I have heard that they are making improvements to Lakeland, I certainly hope so. they finally started getting their act together and were putting on some decent racing. would hate to lose the place now. I have also heard they are having a grand re-opening event on the 26th.
as far as bradenton, that is pretty well out for me since it is over a 2 hour drive from me. I am in the Zephyrhills/Dade city area

It seems like Sunshine is going to reopen with some improvement by the new owners. That track had some of the best bracket racers around that ran there on a regular basis. I have not been able to race there much lately due to my workload.
Its good that someone is going to make a go of it with Lakeland dragstrip, i used to bracket race there on a few Saturdays a month. Now that CFRC has a well run IHRA bracket series as well as Orlando Speedworld running a point race 2 and 3 weeks a month , there will be very few bracket racers from the Central Florida area that will race at Lakeland on Sat nights. Its gonna be hard to make a profit with no one showing up to race on Sat!

true. I was very Impressed with CFRC's facility. haven't gotten the chance to run there yet, but the track is very nicely layed out and clean. so hopefully Lakeland will step it up some to compete. I have been in contact with the track manager there and he has been keeping me informed of what has been happening with the track. my friends and I over the last couple of months actually organized with them and put together a monthly street night at Lakeland. one friday a month we run no prep, no times and either pro tree or armdrop start and only $5 to get in. actually got a huge response. it was very similar to the street heat events that Sunshine put on. I just hope sunshine does something different with the staging lane configuration. it was kinda weird having to stop and wait for incoming/outgoing traffic to pass so I could move up closer to the track
