Default Noob rear end question on ring and pinion install?

Just finsihed changing the pinion and diff bearings. Got everything installed. Now when i try to get a full revolution out of the gears, it has one point where it binds really hard. Looking for some advice, first time breaking in to my rear end. Gears are stock, only changed the bearings. Stock 10 bolt in a 99 z28 auto. Thanks in advance.

Make sure where the ring gear mounts there is no trash behind it causeing a issue also I would use a straight edge on the gear. I have seen a warped gear and did what you are seeing.

those 2 round spacers that go in next to the bearings are different thickness & you have to put them back in the same side they came out of.
did you?

What is your backlash measurement?

Ill try swapping them. Thought i kept them separated but ill see. Havn't got to check it yet. Got stuck where im at. What is the the backlash usually suppose to be? And is there a good way to check if the pinion is seated properly?

Backlash usually varies between gear brands - I've seen between .006" - .012".
On a set of used gears removed for bearing replacement I'd set it around .008" or so.

Pinion checks (bearing preload specifically) needs to be checked with the carrier out of the car. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't know of any other way to measure preload. Take a inch pound torque wrench and measure how much torque it takes to rotate pinion gear (without carrier installed).

i'm guessing the ring gear isn't seated properly on the diff, take the bolts back off and separate the ring gear from the diff, take a fine file or emery board and slowly and lightly file the backside of the ring gear and clean it and all the holes with brake cleaner then place it back on the diff and tighten the bolts in a cross action slowy working in a circle then torque them to 55-60 ft lbs btw don't forget your locktite
