I found this rough 1996 Camaro SS in bright teal green. This is car number 1954.

SLP options include,
2OTL Catback
Level 2 suspension
Torsen diff
Hurst shifter
Floor mats and car cover.

Issues with car are needs steering rack, shocks, front and rear seats, headliner, brakes and paint and some body work.
Here's the pics.

..How much? If it's for the cheap I'd prob pick it up. I love LT1 SS's and teal ones are rare..especially with those options.

sounds like a decent deal to me. However try to settle at 3k even. Focus on all the details and estimate how much itll cost to have back in good shape. Then go from there.

however if youre looking to resell it, I dont think itll be worth much unless its in perfect conditions and as close to stock as possible. And even then the high mileage just ruins the picture.

$3k would be a good price but that asking price isnt unfair IMO. This is one of those cars that isn't 100% about bang for the buck, remember, it's a rare car.

On a side note, what the fuck happened to those seats!?

Ya well I talked the owner down from 4500 to 3400 just after seeing the back seats where messed up also and there was a good 4-5in of play in steering wheel.... But it felt strong still. I didnt smoke, or make any odd engine noise.

Seats are easy to replace (dont tell her that though lol). A lot of the interior can be cleaned up, and interior parts for 4th gens are easy to come by.

If it runs well, thats the main thing IMO. Do your duty as a car enthusiast and get that baby back up to snuff! :D

A lot of the things this car needs are things people change out even when they aren't in need. Doing a new steering rack would be easy if you pulled the motor out, cleaned it up, maybe paint the engine bay, do suspension ect. It would be a great project car IMO

somebody couldn't take of that poor thing...i have a '95 Z28 that looks almost factory clean, people can take care of a car IF they want to ...so HELL yeah save it...restore it at your own time...just like MASTER TOMOS said...great project car, and hell without car payments you can do it all or one thing at a time...do interior first, and then any possible maintenance work...last thing you want to is paint it....love the CAMARO SS..LT1 OR LS1...those are beautiful cars....good luck.

one other thing, i could not imagine letting any of my cars get to look like this poor thing...how in the hell can she/he drive around in it knowing it needs so much work???....pride anybody...sh!t

I think they let a monkey loose in that car, how else do you explain those seats?

really, like LATCH said...what could have happened to those seats...i have velour seats in my Z28 and leather in my WS6...i really wonder what the hell did go wrong with those seats...dashboard is cracked, re-placement i believe is approx. $150.00 @ afterthoughts auto.com, a sponsor on here...they just clip in, takes 10 minutes, no biggie...seats shouldn't be much of a hassle, get them just about anywhere if you want after-market...those rims never came on that year SS, i believe they were a option on '01 or '02....correct me if i'm wrong, they were first put on the LS1 SS....hood is a different color as well...shocks and struts are not expensive, depending on what you go with.

nor is a headliner, you can do that yourself as most anything you said it needed...steering rack might be some money, check inside oil cap and make sure it's dry...common problem with these engine's are clogged pcv lines...and please make sure the OPTI is ok...good luck 96 RAM AIR TA.

ya i saw the dash on after thought, and i may go with 6le seats and a year one or hawks 3rd gen head liner, i have a friend at n*pa whos a manger who can get me the rack at cost. ya she told me the water pump was new but the opti was a few years old. the rims came of her old roommates 35th anny SS.

if that is her in that picture , she looks soooo proud of herself, for letting those monkeys loose in her car...96 ram air ta, i would leave the beauty ('02) at home and work on this, and since i ran my mouth so much on this topic, i want some after results of this project / pictures...i feel like this car's step-daddy...lololol...

Sheesh, those seats are destroyed. If the body is straight, I think it would be a decent project car. Looks like it needs a LOT of work though.

Remember that that car needs at least $4000 invested to be clean again. That means you have at least $7000 in it. That's pretty close to what you could buy one that would only need $1000 worth of tires and spark plugs for and have 70k less miles.

$3000 would be my absolute top dollar unless you don't mind having more in it that it's worth when done.

96RAMAIRTA...you have to do what's right for you, do what you comfortable with...sometimes i would rather start a project and watch it mature through time then just spend the money for a nicer car....i like to build things and with this camaro you can build something really special...good luck with it and be safe ''over there''...

Bright Teal Metallic (37U) was the most rare color of '96 SS coupes:

68 Total '96 SS coupes in MTM built
- 47 w/ M6
- 21 w/ A4

The car, and especially the seats, look BEAT. Was that car flooded? Can't see that much wear and tear on the upper seat backs unless something else happened. Look for mud in wierd places. But then again, Texas heat can be a b!tch says the missing clearcoat.

Well sad news fellas while waiting for my taxes the lady sold it to someone who offered her her asking price. But all is not lost I found a 1997 Trans am ws6 m6 that is in far better shape.

Looks like it needs some TLC too, but nearly as much as the camaro. Does this car have any rare options?

Is that the same gas station that the SS was parked at btw? lol

On a side note, if you buy the car, you should sell me the hood and or wheels :smokin2:

96RamAirTA
02-09-2012, 07:24 AM
Haha on hood and wheels. Idk if there's any rare options I know it doesn't have the 12disk changer, or post seat other than lumbar adjustment. And no traction control. So i don't know if thay makes it rare?? Ya it needs just some paint and clear and one small tear in driver seat but this car is in far better condition than the ss. On a side note its not I was in hillsboro Texas when I stopped. The ss is in Austin Texas.

I have a 97 SS that I love, but I have always wanted a Black LT1 WS6 Trans Am!!!!

1961ba427...i love that commercial on the '96-'97 WS6's...black bird..clean lines on the LT1 WS6's...also, really love the ram-air system more on both the LT1 cars then on the LS1's...that '97 SS that you have has a really awesome set-up for cold-air, not so on the LS1 cars...same with the WS6, the LT1's ram air looks better to me then the ram-air on the LS1 cars...hell my '99 SS seemed shut-off for air flow compared to the LT1 set-up..also, the LT1 sounds better with the same exhaust vs. the LS1...not saying quicker, but sounding better...both my cars have the same exhaust and it's my LT1 that sounds better then my LS1...just my 2 cents...
