There are a Couple of Us GTO Guy's that are Working with a Chassis Guy on Some Trick GTO Parts, One is a RACE ONLY Front Cradle there will be 2 types an All out with Motor plate set up,and a factory style Mount set up....also a REAL Coil over set up with a lower A-Arm so no more Radius rod bushings or Strut Mounts To FAIL, The Cradle will let you change Your Oil Pan to a Rear Sump and a FRONT STEERING GTO..

Default Do like...

Rear A arm / coil over set up idea a lot. thats a go...

You will have to make me a believer on your plans for the front engine cradle, i think you are over thinking it... Here's what i like to see; the replacement of the factory piece with the stock location for the rack and pinion and removable lower cross piece so i can remove the oil pan without much fuss and of course round tube so there's plenty extra access room around engine, IE easily removing the starter, and so on, and yes some weight savings please.

But all mounting location to be model after the original piece, as the location / positioning jig, and i personally like to use the factory, motor mount type system, with similar but after-market m/mounts. Here's why, i like to stay away from front engine plates, on the GTO "heat extraction blocking", just not enough room in our engine bay, too much heat zinc.

Is just another idea, not to criticize your plans, just that changing the oil pan makes it more expensive, i can give you the solution for mine idea if you like, it won't compromise the integrity of the structure, and can be easily removed and re installed, using round tube of your choice, with all the weight of the engine sitting on it, just need to use a cross member as the factory piece, just ahead of the motor, PM me if interested, lets partner ideas for a master piece, what e you say...thanks David.
Then a removable fiber glass front end....ha ha...

Didn't BMR do a one-off front engine cradle for the GM Performance Parts LS7 GTO? As I recall, their custom cradle allowed the LS7 to retain the Corvette pan and oiling system. Obviously, BMR has done some engineering work on this, it just never made it to market.

Edit: Found it.

The front end of mine is about the only stockish area left and I want to know more about these parts so I'm in!

How much weight do you think the combo of parts can drop off the front end? Biggest weight I've seen sofar is in the floor/ structure of the body and bulkheads. I've even been thinking of lopping the whole frontend off and building a from scratch tube chassisback through the firewall and tie into my cage.

About a 150 pounds with a drag or race style rim and wheel combo over the Stock set up....

I've been thinking about adapting 4wd s10 control arms, hubs, spindles and torsion bars under the front of mine with a tube chassis up front....that could save even more weight
