Default 4.8 cam swap wont start

I did a swap on my friends truck and it fires, holds 500 for a second then dies. I smell a lot of gas, is it the tune or is something else wrong? Spark plugs were black when I checked them.

Depending how big the cam is, it might not want to idle with the stock tune. My 216/220 on 110 in my 4.8 won't idle with a stock tune.

Recheck all the wires, my neighbor had the same problem and it ended being the ones behind the cylinder heads weren't wired up to the head right and one spark plug wire was not too tight.

Thanks guys, I checked everywhere for loose connections and nada. The plugs are soaked in gas even after having the computer tuned so we are going to haul it to the tune shop.

Hold the pedal to the floor to clean it out. When the computer detects 100% throttle position during starting it cuts fuel to attempt to clear a flooded engine. See if it shows any signs of life then.

Ive done a ton of cam swaps and built a "few" ls motors and never had one not start.

Did it have any kind of tune put on it? Did you swap injectors?

I did a cam swap on my 4.8L using a 216/220 and it did the same. Once it started I had to just hold the throttle a bit so it would idle for a bit. After doing that a few times it idled fine on its own.
