It ought to get there easily!

What's up with all the mill work in the lifter valley? Will the lifters come out w/o removing the heads with that "mod"?

That's so you can get to the head bolts that go from the bottom of the head. You can get to the lifters through there too and ERL make a hold down that mounts to the center of the valley area for lifter guides... It's pretty slick.

Yeah, I totally missed the 6-bolt option. And after another closer look, I see how the lifters can be removed.

Thanks!

Floor is going in. It also has that new chrome molly U-joint covered required by NHRA for 2012. Not sure I needed it because I have steel floors and they will be fully welded in... but I'm there now so what the hell. It will improve resale value I guess it's a good thing, needed or not.

That is very nice work. I have done a handful of cages in fox body mustangs, mostly just the wolfe kits. The main hoop forward is the cookie cutter part, I always like seeing what people do from the main hoop back. Yours came out very nice, I like the ideas.

The only thing left is the tin work in the back trunk area, mounting the fuel cell and finishing up the anti-roll bar setup.

Tin work in the trunk is pretty much done and the anti-roll bar setup is finished. <(All but the hardware)

All the bars are in back are finished too. Now the only tin work left is the front panels by the shock towers. Then I'll fill and smooth the engine bay and take it to get it painted. (I don't do paint)

It's getting closer. All the holes are filled in the engine bay and the fender well panels and bumper support and trans cooler mount is installed. It's pretty much ready for paint at this point. But I want to finish the rear bulkhead in the trunk area first then it can go have the carpet installed right after I get the engine bay repainted. After all that is done, I can start on the engine.

Do not understand distributor.

What part? What it is or how it works?

It's a Jesel Belt drive distributor that is driven off a pulley on the cam. As it rotates it spins the rotor button and the plug wires are installed in the engine firing order. There will be a crank trigger on the harmonic balancer that will tell it when to fire the coil. There are no other parts inside the distributor.

No timing chain, less harmonics and very accurate timing. And you can use a nasty MSD HVC II coil. Plus it's plug and play with just about any MDS product they make. This is a nitrous car so I'm using a MSD 7AL3 box with all the nitrous retards, ect... Very clean and user friendly.

Thanks! It's all Chromoly tubing so it's not as heavey as you would think. And yes, it's a 25.2 cert cage (6.0 seconds 1/4 mile)

I actually have designed a very similar build - down to the chassis, SFI qualifications, street/strip application, and ET goals. Only difference is the transmission and motor in getting there. 540 BBC through a GF5R on EFI instead of carb. NC emissions regulations hold a few limits on the street part.

What lifters are you going with? and i am also stealing your poly trans mount adaptation - that is a slick setup. You dont need to poly-mount the mid-plate as well do you? What are your plans for front to back torsional forces or does the trans mount take care of it for you all at the same time?

Also, do you mind PM'ing the book you have for the SFI requirements or where to get the annually updated issues?

Thanks ahead of time!

I just figure there would be a better ignition setup that would avoid a distributor in general. Perhaps maintain individual could setup. Seen built setups above 1000 HP using stock coils, so it makes me scratch my head.

For this engine a COP setup would work fine. But I had this setup on my last carb/nitrous combo and it works flawless so I'm sticking with it. On my other Coupe which is a Turbo car, I tried the COP setup and had nothing but problems with it. So I switched it to the setup and now it too works falsely.

There comes a point in which the COP setup has it's limits. A bunch of folks start off with the COP system but eventfully they get away from if for one reason of another... There are a bunch of build threads on this site that have address the pros/cons of the COP ignition.

The belt drive cam setup is about $1,500.00 and the Jesel belt drive distributor IS ABOUT $650.00

Cool! Do you have a build thread on your project? I love watching these things come together.

As for lifters, I'll be using the ISKY "Red Zone" lifters with the plus .300" body with offset cups on the intake to allow me to run larger OD pushrods.

The front motor plate and the mid plate are bolted, rigged. I have a poly mount on the trans cross member. As for the lateral movement (banjo effect of using motor plates) I'll be installing a arm with heim joints at each end from the front of the heads to the forward section of the frame rails.

PM me any time if you have any questions... I'll help if I can.

No sir, no build thread - storage concerns and time availability - something i simply do not have at this time. Instead i am in the process of funding the top end of motor, and this time next year the bottom end and getting a dyno result before storage for the chassis to be completed.

Any reason to not convert to a mustang II front end suspension setup? Ive got weight concerns with this particular build as the block is iron and may need to move the motor back - anything you might have to say on this i am all ears.

Cool that out of all of the combinations that exist both of us chose identical ET goals on such a similar platform

That is a question I can not answer. I've never used any Mustang II stuff so it would be less than a guess if you would have any issues. I know a lot of folks graft that front end onto almost everything but it's usually just "Hot Rod" stuff, not like what you are doing...

I have NHRA to thank for that. If I plan on running low 8's at the track you gotta add all that cage work. But it will run on pump gas, have full exhaust and full interior and have tags and insurance so it will get plenty of street time. Alot of those miles will hopefully be during Drag Week if all goes well.

This thing is back under the the knife and headed for the forced Induction section. Itís getting 4.5L Whipple SC makeover in preparation for Drag Week next year<(I donít think I can have it ready for this year) The new 4.5L Whipple SC is rated @ 1600 HP so if should be fun to drive and super quick if I can control all the low end torque.

Other modifications will include a ERL Super Deck 6 bolt block with a Callies BBC crank cut down for the mains but leaving the BBC rod journals and BBC Ultra Rods. Spark and fuel will come from a Holley Dominator EFI system. Iíll also put in a Chiseled Performance water tank to run ice water through the blower intake intercooler at the track and maybe some higher rear gears... Probably some 3.23ís Great for long trips and help tame some of the torque.

Thanks for the props and following along with me for the Carb version of this project. It was a lot of fun and I hope the next version will be just as successful.

Do you sell these motor plates. I read in the thread you said you built yours. I would be very interested in purchasing one if so. Great build. Car is beautiful.

I did at one time but it was more trouble than it was worth so I stopped. I think "Skinny Kid Race Cars" sell them... Might wanna check with him.
